### Install and start AutoDesign locally

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/README.md

One-command local launch. Requires Node.js 22+ and ffmpeg/ffprobe. Installs under ~/.local/share/autodesign, keeps state under ~/.autodesign, serves the bundled web/dist, and opens a browser. Existing ~/.designanything state is migrated with a compatibility symlink.

```bash
curl -fsSL https://designanything.ai/install.sh | bash
autodesign start
```

--------------------------------

### Install all four AutoDesign skills on Windows

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/agent_skills/README.md

Windows example for downloading and installing all four AutoDesign skills. Change $Destination for Codex or DeepSeek Harness. Uses py -3 as the Python launcher.

```powershell
New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force autodesign-skills-v0.2.0 | Out-Null
gh release download agent-skills-v0.2.0 `
  --repo Yaxin9Luo/AutoDesign `
  --dir autodesign-skills-v0.2.0
Set-Location autodesign-skills-v0.2.0
$Destination = "$HOME\.claude\skills"
foreach ($Skill in @("autodesign-poster", "autodesign-ppt", "autodesign-webpage", "autodesign-video")) {
  py -3 -I .\package_agent_skills.py install `
    --archive ".\$Skill-0.2.0.zip" `
    --checksum ".\$Skill-0.2.0.zip.sha256" `
    --destination $Destination
}
```

--------------------------------

### Install AutoDesign with OCR extra

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/eval/README.md

Installs AutoDesign with the benchmark OCR dependencies. Run this before configuring provider credentials.

```bash
uv sync --extra ocr
```

--------------------------------

### Install a single AutoDesign skill with installer

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/agent_skills/README.md

Installs a single AutoDesign skill (autodesign-poster) with its matching checksum. Replace autodesign-poster with another skill name and choose the destination for your Coding Agent. The installer verifies SHA-256, validates extracted contents, promotes atomically, and refuses to overwrite an existing Skill.

```bash
python3 -I ./package_agent_skills.py install \
  --archive ./autodesign-poster-0.2.0.zip \
  --checksum ./autodesign-poster-0.2.0.zip.sha256 \
  --destination "$HOME/.agents/skills"
```

--------------------------------

### Install dependencies and render PDF with pdftoppm

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/skills/common/pdf_render_qa/references/pdf_render_commands.md

Install required Python packages and the poppler utility, then render a PDF to PNG images with pdftoppm. Run these commands when dependencies are missing; report missing dependencies rather than skipping QA.

```bash
uv pip install reportlab pdfplumber pypdf
brew install poppler
pdftoppm -png "$INPUT_PDF" "$OUTPUT_PREFIX"
```

--------------------------------

### Install all four AutoDesign skills with installer loop

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/agent_skills/README.md

Installs all four AutoDesign skills into the shared Codex and DeepSeek Harness user directory. The installer checks SHA-256, validates the extracted package, promotes it atomically, and refuses to overwrite an existing installation.

```bash
DESTINATION="${DESTINATION:-$HOME/.agents/skills}"
for skill in autodesign-poster autodesign-ppt autodesign-webpage autodesign-video; do
  python3 -I ./package_agent_skills.py install \
    --archive "./${skill}-0.2.0.zip" \
    --checksum "./${skill}-0.2.0.zip.sha256" \
    --destination "$DESTINATION"
done
```

--------------------------------

### Start frontend dev server

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/README.md

Start the frontend development server in another terminal. Open localhost:5173 to access the workbench.

```bash
cd web
npm run dev
```

--------------------------------

### Start the interactive CLI with uv

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/README.md

Starts the interactive CLI for AutoDesign. Use this command to launch the command-line interface.

```bash
uv --cache-dir .uv-cache run python -m autodesign
```

--------------------------------

### Launch backend with uvicorn

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/README.md

Start the backend server. Run in one terminal; the frontend is started separately. Backend health is available at /api/health.

```bash
uv run uvicorn scripts.web_server:app --reload --port 8000
```

### Markdown: required README section headings

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/docs/superpowers/plans/2026-08-17-agent-skills-launch.md

Required section headings for the dedicated agent_skills/README.md guide. The guide must include exact gh skill install commands for the four nested package paths and the checksum-verified ZIP installer fallback.

```markdown
## Quick install
## Install by Coding Agent
## First run
## Requirements
## Skills vs. the full AutoDesign Harness
## Roadmap and contributing
## Maintainer verification
```

--------------------------------

### Set up the run with webpage_harness.py

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/agent_skills/autodesign-webpage/SKILL.md

Sets up a run: runs doctor, initializes the run directory with the paper source, checks status, prints the status JSON, and extracts the active attempt ID.

```bash
HARNESS="$SKILL_ROOT/scripts/webpage_harness.py"
python3 "$HARNESS" doctor
python3 "$HARNESS" init --run-dir "$RUN_DIR" --source "$PAPER"
STATUS_JSON="$(python3 "$HARNESS" status --run-dir "$RUN_DIR")"
printf '%s\n' "$STATUS_JSON"
ATTEMPT_ID="$(printf '%s' "$STATUS_JSON" | python3 -c 'import json,sys; print(json.load(sys.stdin)["active_attempt"] or "")')"
```

--------------------------------

### Install dependencies from source

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/README.md

Build from source. Requirements: Python 3.10+, uv, Node.js 22+, npm, and ffmpeg/ffprobe for Video. Configure provider keys in .env or in the Web UI Settings drawer; do not replace an existing .env during an update.

```bash
uv sync
uv run python scripts/install_playwright_browsers.py
cd runtime/video && npm ci --omit=dev
cd ../../web && npm install
```

--------------------------------

### Set DESTINATION for Codex skills

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/agent_skills/README.md

Sets the destination directory for Codex user skills. Use this value for DESTINATION in the Quick install shell. After installation, start a new Codex task if the skills do not appear immediately.

```bash
DESTINATION="$HOME/.agents/skills"
```

--------------------------------

### Run smoke evaluation with run_poster_benchmark_main_table.py

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/eval/README.md

Runs a quick evaluation on a limited number of examples (--limit 2) with a single worker to verify the setup before running the full evaluation.

```bash
uv --cache-dir .uv-cache run --extra ocr \
  python scripts/run_poster_benchmark_main_table.py \
  --paper-root eval/EvaData \
  --systems codex_native \
  --codex-native-root /absolute/path/to/candidates \
  --system-label "codex_native=Your System" \
  --model gemini-3.5-flash \
  --limit 2 \
  --workers 1 \
  --out-dir out/eval/your-system-smoke
```

--------------------------------

### Serve local acceptance gallery

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/docs/superpowers/plans/2026-08-17-poster-agent-first-v2.md

Starts a local HTTP server on a free loopback port to serve the acceptance gallery. The port is chosen dynamically using a Python one-liner, and the server serves the acceptance root directory.

```bash
PORT="$(python3 - <<'PY'
import socket
with socket.socket() as listener:
    listener.bind(("127.0.0.1", 0))
    print(listener.getsockname()[1])
PY
)"
python3 -m http.server "$PORT" --bind 127.0.0.1 \
  --directory "$ACCEPTANCE_ROOT"
```

--------------------------------

### Build release A and B and verify deterministic output

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/docs/superpowers/plans/2026-08-17-agent-skills-launch.md

Builds two release directories (A and B) and compares them with diff -qr. Expects no diff; each release contains four ZIPs, four checksum sidecars, manifest.json, and the two release-local tools.

```bash
python3 -B scripts/package_agent_skills.py build --source-root agent_skills --output-dir /tmp/autodesign-skills-v0.1.0-a --version 0.1.0
python3 -B scripts/package_agent_skills.py build --source-root agent_skills --output-dir /tmp/autodesign-skills-v0.1.0-b --version 0.1.0
diff -qr /tmp/autodesign-skills-v0.1.0-a /tmp/autodesign-skills-v0.1.0-b
```

--------------------------------

### Install Poster archive into fresh temp root

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/docs/superpowers/plans/2026-08-17-poster-agent-first-v2.md

Bash commands to install the Poster archive into a fresh temporary host root using the release-local installer, then make the installed tree read-only. Used in Step 3 to verify a read-only installed package.

```bash
INSTALL_ROOT="$(mktemp -d /tmp/autodesign-poster-v2-install.XXXXXX)"
python3 -I "$RELEASE_A/package_agent_skills.py" install \
  --archive "$RELEASE_A/autodesign-poster-0.2.0-rc1.zip" \
  --checksum "$RELEASE_A/autodesign-poster-0.2.0-rc1.zip.sha256" \
  --destination "$INSTALL_ROOT"
chmod -R a-w "$INSTALL_ROOT/autodesign-poster"
```

--------------------------------

### Run sync and tests

Source: https://github.com/yaxin9luo/autodesign/blob/main/docs/superpowers/plans/2026-08-17-poster-agent-first-v2.md

Commands to sync the skill core, run the unit tests, check for drift, and verify the diff.

```bash
PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 python3 scripts/sync_agent_skill_core.py
PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 python3 -m unittest \
  tests.test_portable_png \
  tests.test_portable_skill_run_state \
  tests.test_portable_agent_skill_packages -v
PYTHONDONTWRITEBYTECODE=1 python3 scripts/sync_agent_skill_core.py --check
git diff --check
```
