### Initialize MCP HotNews Server with TypeScript

Source: https://context7.com/wopal-cn/mcp-hotnews-server/llms.txt

This TypeScript code sets up the HotNews MCP server using the '@modelcontextprotocol/sdk'. It defines server metadata, registers handlers for listing tools and calling tools, and specifies the input schema for the 'get_hot_news' tool. It utilizes 'StdioServerTransport' for communication.

```typescript
// Server Initialization (from src/index.ts)
import { Server } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/server/index.js";
import { StdioServerTransport } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/server/stdio.js";
import {
  CallToolRequestSchema,
  ErrorCode,
  ListToolsRequestSchema,
  McpError,
} from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/types.js";
class HotNewsServer {
  private server: Server;
  constructor() {
    // Initialize MCP server with metadata
    this.server = new Server(
      {
        name: "mcp-server/hotnewslist",
        version: "0.1.0",
      },
      {
        capabilities: {
          resources: {},
          tools: {},
        },
      }
    );
    this.setupToolHandlers();
  }
  private setupToolHandlers() {
    // Register tool list handler
    this.server.setRequestHandler(ListToolsRequestSchema, async () => ({
      tools: [
        {
          name: "get_hot_news",
          description: "Get hot trending lists from various platforms",
          inputSchema: {
            type: "object",
            properties: {
              sources: {
                type: "array",
                description: generateSourcesDescription(),
                items: {
                  type: "number",
                  minimum: 1,
                  maximum: getMaxSourceId(),
                },
              },
            },
            required: ["sources"],
          },
        },
      ],
    }));
    // Register tool execution handler
    this.server.setRequestHandler(CallToolRequestSchema, async (request) => {
      if (request.params.name !== "get_hot_news") {
        throw new McpError(
          ErrorCode.MethodNotFound,
          `Unknown tool: ${request.params.name}`
        );
      }
      const sources = request.params.arguments?.sources as number[];
      if (!Array.isArray(sources) || sources.length === 0) {
        throw new Error("Please provide valid source IDs");
      }
      // Process request and return results
      // ... (implementation details in previous examples)
    });
  }
  async run() {
    const transport = new StdioServerTransport();
    await this.server.connect(transport);
    console.error("Hot news MCP server running on stdio");
  }
}
// Start the server
const server = new HotNewsServer();
server.run().catch(console.error);
### Fetch and Format Hot News Data with TypeScript
Source: https://context7.com/wopal-cn/mcp-hotnews-server/llms.txt
This TypeScript code fetches hot news data from specified sources using axios and transforms it into a markdown-formatted string. It includes interfaces for request and response data structures and error handling for API calls. Dependencies include 'axios' and local config files.
```typescript
// Internal API Call Implementation (from src/index.ts)
import axios from 'axios';
import { BASE_API_URL, HOT_NEWS_SOURCES } from './config.js';

interface HotNewsItem {
  index: number;
  title: string;
  url: string;
  hot?: string | number;
}

interface HotNewsResponse {
  success: boolean;
  message?: string;
  name: string;
  subtitle: string;
  update_time: string;
  data: HotNewsItem[];
}

// Example: Fetching Zhihu hot topics
async function fetchHotNews(sourceId: number): Promise<string> {
  const source = HOT_NEWS_SOURCES[sourceId];

  if (!source) {
    throw new Error(`Source ID ${sourceId} does not exist`);
  }

  try {
    const response = await axios.get<HotNewsResponse>(
      `${BASE_API_URL}/${source.name}`
    );
    // API URL example: https://api.vvhan.com/api/hotlist/zhihuHot

    const news = response.data;

    if (!news.success) {
      throw new Error(`Failed to fetch ${source.description}: ${news.message}`);
    }

    // Transform data to markdown
    const newsList = news.data.map((item: HotNewsItem) =>
      `${item.index}. [${item.title}](${item.url}) ${
        item.hot ? `<small>Heat: ${item.hot}</small>` : ""
      }`
    );

    return `
### ${news.name}:${news.subtitle}
> Last updated: ${news.update_time}
${newsList.join("\n")}
`;
  } catch (error) {
    if (axios.isAxiosError(error)) {
      throw new Error(error.response?.data.message ?? error.message);
    }
    throw new Error("Unknown error");
  }
}

// Example usage with multiple sources
async function fetchMultipleSources(sources: number[]): Promise<string[]> {
  const results = await Promise.all(
    sources.map(sourceId => fetchHotNews(sourceId))
  );
  return results;
}

// Usage
const hotTopics = await fetchMultipleSources([1, 3, 5]);
console.log(hotTopics.join("\n\n"));

```
