### Example Tile URLs using Subdomains

Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/subdomains

These are example URLs demonstrating the use of 'a', 'b', and 'c' subdomains for fetching map tiles. This approach was used to bypass older browser connection limits.

```url
https://a.tile.thunderforest.com/cycle/3/3/3.png?apikey=<insert-your-apikey-here>
```

```url
https://b.tile.thunderforest.com/cycle/3/3/3.png?apikey=<insert-your-apikey-here>
```

```url
https://c.tile.thunderforest.com/cycle/3/3/3.png?apikey=<insert-your-apikey-here>
```

--------------------------------

### Requesting Retina Static Maps

Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/static-maps-api

Use the scale parameter to request high-resolution (retina/hidpi) static maps. Setting scale to @2x doubles the map resolution.

```url
https://api.thunderforest.com/static/{style}/{lon},{lat},{zoom}/{width}x{height}@2x.{format}?apikey={apikey}
```

--------------------------------

### Append API Key to URL

Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/apikeys

Add your API key to the end of the URL to authenticate requests. Replace '<insert-your-apikey-here>' with your actual API key.

```url
https://api.thunderforest.com/outdoors/{z}/{x}/{y}.png?apikey=<insert-your-apikey-here>
```

--------------------------------

### After: Single API Domain Tile URL Pattern

Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/subdomains

This is the recommended pattern for tile URLs using the 'api' domain. It leverages HTTP/2 for better performance by avoiding separate DNS lookups and connections per subdomain.

```url
https://api.thunderforest.com/{style}/{z}/{x}/{y}.png?apikey={apikey}
```

--------------------------------

### Static Maps API Endpoint

Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/static-maps-api

Construct a URL to request a static map image with your desired specifications.

```APIDOC
## GET Static Maps API
### Description
Requests a static map image with custom parameters.
### Method
GET
### Endpoint
https://api.thunderforest.com/static/{style}/{lon},{lat},{zoom}/{width}x{height}{scale}.{format}?apikey={apikey}
### Parameters
#### Path Parameters
- **style** (string) - Required - The id for the map style, e.g. `cycle` or `transport`
- **lon** (number) - Required - The longitude of the centre of the map, in decimal degrees
- **lat** (number) - Required - The latitude of the centre of the map, in decimal degrees
- **zoom** (integer) - Required - The zoom level of the map. Range from 0 to 22 inclusive.
- **width** (integer) - Required - The width of the map, in pixels. Maximum width is 2560 pixels.
- **height** (integer) - Required - The height of the map, in pixels. Maximum height is 2560 pixels.
- **scale** (string) - Optional - The scale modifier, e.g. `@2x`. When omitted, a scale of 1 is used.
- **format** (string) - Required - The image format, e.g. `.png` or `.jpg90`
#### Query Parameters
- **apikey** (string) - Required - Your API Key
### Request Example
```
https://api.thunderforest.com/static/transport/13.4125,52.5200,12/600x400@2x.png?apikey=YOUR_API_KEY
```
### Response
#### Success Response (200)
- The response is an image file in the specified format (e.g., PNG, JPG).
```

--------------------------------

### Before: Subdomain Tile URL Pattern

Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/subdomains

This is the pattern for tile URLs that utilize subdomains. It is recommended to update this to the 'api' domain.

```url
https://{s}.tile.thunderforest.com/{style}/{z}/{x}/{y}.png?apikey={apikey}
```

--------------------------------

### Map Tiles API Endpoint

Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/map-tiles-api

The base URL format for requesting map tiles from the Thunderforest API. This includes parameters for map style, zoom level, tile coordinates, scale, format, and your API key.

```APIDOC
## GET /tiles/{style}/{z}/{x}/{y}{scale}.{format}
### Description
Requests a map tile at a specific zoom level, tile coordinates, and format. The style and API key define the map appearance and access.
### Method
GET
### Endpoint
https://api.thunderforest.com/{style}/{z}/{x}/{y}{scale}.{format}?apikey={apikey}
### Parameters
#### Path Parameters
- **style** (string) - Required - The id for the map style, e.g. `cycle` or `transport`.
- **z** (integer) - Required - The zoom level of the tile. Range from 0 to 22 inclusive.
- **x** (integer) - Required - The horizontal tile number.
- **y** (integer) - Required - The vertical tile number.
- **scale** (string) - Optional - The scale modifier, e.g. `@2x`. When omitted, a scale of 1 is used.
- **format** (string) - Required - The image format, e.g. `.png` or `.jpg90`.
### Static Maps API URL Format
Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/static-maps-api
This is the base URL format for the Static Maps API. Replace placeholders with your specific map parameters and API key.
```url
https://api.thunderforest.com/static/{style}/{lon},{lat},{zoom}/{width}x{height}{scale}.{format}?apikey={apikey}
```
--------------------------------
### Map Tiles API URL Format
Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/map-tiles-api
This is the base URL format for requesting map tiles. Replace placeholders with your specific style, zoom level, tile coordinates, desired scale, image format, and API key.
```url
https://api.thunderforest.com/{style}/{z}/{x}/{y}{scale}.{format}?apikey={apikey}
```
--------------------------------
### Vector Styles API Endpoint
Source: https://www.thunderforest.com/docs/vector-styles-api
This endpoint provides the MapLibre Style Specification JSON for a given map style, which is essential for client-side map rendering. You will also need to provide your API key.
```APIDOC
