### Markdown Tables

Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index

Provides an example of how to create tables in Markdown, including headers, alignment (left, right, center), and rows of data. Shows both the written Markdown and rendered output.

```markdown
| header | header | header | header |
|--------|:-------|-------:|:------:|
| stuff  | stuff  | stuff  | stuff  |
```

### Markdown Blockquotes

Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index

Shows how to format blockquotes in Markdown for citing or highlighting text. The example includes a multi-line blockquote.

```markdown
> Lorem blockquote dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Sed ullamcorper enim libero, ut luctus lorem ultricies ut. Aenean sed nulla a mauris posuere aliquam bibendum id ipsum. Fusce non augue mollis, dictum libero sed, blockquote enim.
> Lorem blockquote dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Sed ullamcorper enim libero, ut luctus lorem ultricies ut. Aenean sed nulla a mauris posuere aliquam bibendum id ipsum. Fusce non augue mollis, dictum libero sed, blockquote enim.
```

### Basic Markdown Formatting Examples

Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index

Demonstrates common Markdown syntax for text formatting, including italics, bold, strikethrough, spoilers, superscript, inline code, and user/subreddit links. Also shows how to create and render links using direct URLs or reference-style links.

```markdown
_italic_ or *italic*
__bold__ or **bold**
___bold-italic___ or ***bold-italic***
~~strikethrough~~
>!spoilers!<
^superscript or ^(superscript)
`code`
r/reddit
u/reddit
### Markdown Headings and Lists
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Illustrates how to create different levels of headings (H1, H2) and ordered/unordered lists using Markdown syntax. Shows nested list structures and how they are rendered.
```markdown
# Heading 1
## Heading 2

- a
- b

1. c
2. d
```
--------------------------------
### Markdown Code Blocks (Indented)
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Demonstrates how to create a code block in Markdown using indentation. This is often used for displaying multi-line code snippets.
```markdown
    fn main() {
        println!("hey")
    }
```
--------------------------------
### Nested Fenced Code Blocks in Markdown
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Handles nested code fences by increasing the number of backticks or tildes on the outer fence. This prevents the inner code fences from prematurely closing the outer block, allowing correct rendering of nested Markdown code examples.
```markdown
```
````
This code didn't work as expected:
```
if ((err = SSLHashSHA1.update(&hashCtx, &signedParams)) != 0) \
 goto fail; \
 goto fail; \
```
But it tried it's best.
````
```
```
--------------------------------
### Escaping Markdown Syntax
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Explains how to escape Markdown characters to display them literally instead of having them interpreted as formatting. This is useful when you need to include characters like asterisks or backticks in your text.
```markdown
\*This text will not be italicized\*
\`This text will not be code`
```
--------------------------------
### Markdown Thematic Breaks
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Shows how to create a thematic break (horizontal rule) in Markdown using asterisks. This is used to visually separate content sections.
```markdown
***
```
--------------------------------
### Handling Backticks in Inline Code
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Demonstrates techniques for including literal backticks within inline code. This involves surrounding the code with more backticks than are present inside, or using a space separator, to ensure correct rendering. Especially useful when writing about Markdown syntax itself.
```markdown
````example of inline code````
```

```markdown
``` `example of inline code` ```
```
--------------------------------
### Fenced Code Blocks in Markdown
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Represents longer code blocks using triple backticks (```) or tildes (~~~) before and after the code. The opening and closing fences must match. No Markdown is interpreted within fenced code blocks.
```markdown
```
if ((err = SSLHashSHA1.update(&hashCtx, &signedParams)) != 0) \
 goto fail; \
 goto fail; \
```
```
```markdown
~~~
if ((err = SSLHashSHA1.update(&hashCtx, &signedParams)) != 0) \
 goto fail; \
 goto fail; \
~~~
```
--------------------------------
### Thematic Break (Horizontal Rule) in Markdown
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Creates a horizontal line to visually separate content. Achieved by using a line containing three or more asterisks (***), dashes (---), or underscores (___).
```markdown
---
```
```markdown
***
```
```markdown
___
```
--------------------------------
### Inline Code Formatting in Markdown
Source: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide/index
Represents short code snippets within paragraphs using single backticks. Useful for embedding code or commands directly in text. Markdown is not interpreted within backticks.
```markdown
`gravida`
```
