### List snapshots with restic snapshots

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2016-08-22/removing-snapshots

Lists all snapshots in the repository. The example shows about 235 snapshots from daily backups, with the first snapshot ID 6e001a58 used in the forget example.

```bash
$ restic snapshots
### Run local documentation server with mkdocs serve
Source: https://restic.net/blog/2016-02-24/Documentation
Run this command from the repository root to start a local MkDocs server. It builds the documentation, cleans the site directory, and serves it at http://127.0.0.1:8000. The server watches for changes and detects them automatically. Add the `--livereload` parameter to make the browser refresh automatically after a file change.
```bash
$ mkdocs serve
INFO    -  Building documentation...
INFO    -  Cleaning site directory
[I 160224 21:04:49 server:271] Serving on http://127.0.0.1:8000

### Use restic with rclone REST server

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2018-04-01/rclone-backend

Initializes a restic repository and backs up the home directory using the REST server started with rclone. Requires restic version 0.8.2 or later.

```bash
$ restic --repository rest:http://foo:s3kr1t@localhost:8889 init
[...]
$ restic --repository rest:http://foo:s3kr1t@localhost:8889 backup $HOME
```

--------------------------------

### Start rclone REST server for restic

### Create a signed git tag with --annotate and --sign

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2015-09-16/verifying-code-archive-integrity

Use `git tag --annotate --sign` to create a signed tag for the current commit. The example signs the current commit as version v0.1.0 with the message "v0.1.0".

```bash
$ git tag --annotate --sign --message "v0.1.0" v0.1.0
```

### Install Restic on CentOS/RedHat via yum-config-manager

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2018-05-21/restic-0.9.0-released

For CentOS/RedHat systems, manually add the Restic COPR repository before installing. This replaces the official 'yum copr enable copart/restic' command, which may fail. After adding the repo, proceed with the standard installation command.

```bash
yum-config-manager --add-repo https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/copart/restic/repo/epel-7/copart-restic-epel-7.repo
```

```bash
yum install restic
```

--------------------------------

### Create test data with mkdir and dd

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2015-09-12/restic-foundation1-cdc

Creates a test directory and fills a file with 100MiB of random data using dd. The output shows the number of records and the copy speed.

```bash
$ mkdir testdata
$ dd if=/dev/urandom of=testdata/file.raw bs=1M count=100
100+0 records in
100+0 records out
104857600 bytes (105 MB) copied, 5.76985 s, 18.2 MB/s
```

--------------------------------

### Backup after creating a combined file

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2015-09-12/restic-foundation1-cdc

Backs up the directory again and checks the repository size. The repository grows by about 10MiB because a few new chunks were created when creating file3.raw.

```bash
$ restic backup testdata
using parent snapshot ab8e0047
scan [/home/fd0/tmp/testdata]
scanned 1 directories, 3 files in 0:00
[0:03] 100.00%  127.638 MiB/s  400.000 MiB / 400.000 MiB  2 / 4 ... ETA 0:00
duration: 0:03, 123.73MiB/s
snapshot a8897ae3 saved
$ du -sh $RESTIC_REPOSITORY
111M	/tmp/restic-test-repository
```

--------------------------------

### Install restic via yum copr

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2018-05-21/restic-0.9.0-released

Commands to install the restic package from the Copr repository on Fedora using yum. The output shows a prompt to confirm enabling the repository, followed by an error indicating the repository is not found (HTTPS 404).

```bash
yum install yum-plugin-copr
yum copr enable copart/restic
Do you want to continue? [y/N]: y
```

--------------------------------

### Initialize a restic repository with restic init

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2015-09-12/restic-foundation1-cdc

Initializes a new restic repository at the location specified by RESTIC_REPOSITORY. The output includes a warning that losing the password means the data is irrecoverably lost.

```bash
$ restic init
created restic backend 2b310bf378 at /tmp/restic-test-repository
Please note that knowledge of your password is required to access
the repository. Losing your password means that your data is
irrecoverably lost.
```

--------------------------------

### Create a combined file with shell commands

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2015-09-12/restic-foundation1-cdc

Creates a new file that is a combination of the original 100MiB file with added strings, resulting in about 400MiB in the testdata directory.

```bash
$ (echo foo; cat testdata/file.raw; echo bar; cat testdata/file.raw; echo baz) \
  > testdata/file3.raw
$ du -sh testdata
401M	testdata
```

--------------------------------

### Initialize restic repository with rclone backend

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2018-04-01/rclone-backend

Initializes a new restic repository in the specified path within the rclone remote. The output shows the created repository ID.

```bash
$ restic --repo rclone:b2prod:yggdrasil/prod-serverA init
created restic repository 7905a088a0 at rclone:b2prod:yggdrasil/prod-serverA
[...]
```

--------------------------------

### Check repository size after first backup

Source: https://restic.net/blog/2015-09-12/restic-foundation1-cdc

Checks the repository size after the first backup. The repository is roughly the same size as the data backed up (101M).

```bash
$ du -sh $RESTIC_REPOSITORY
101M	/tmp/restic-test-repository
```

YAML configuration for Travis CI build matrix that specifies cache directories for each OS and Go version. Linux uses $HOME/.cache/go-build, while OS X uses $HOME/Library/Caches/go-build.

```yaml
matrix:
  include:
    - os: linux
      go: "1.9.x"
      cache:
        directories:
          - $HOME/.cache/go-build
          - $HOME/gopath/pkg/mod
    - os: linux
      go: "1.10.x"
      cache:
        directories:
          - $HOME/.cache/go-build
          - $HOME/gopath/pkg/mod
    - os: linux
      go: "1.11.x"
      sudo: true
      cache:
        directories:
          - $HOME/.cache/go-build
          - $HOME/gopath/pkg/mod
    - os: osx
