### Prolog: Trace Query and Output

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2012/01/simple-tracer-for-flow-graph-language-6930951890987229484

This Prolog code demonstrates a query to trace the example loop starting from block `b` with initial environment `[i/100, x/5]`. It shows the expected output from the tracer, including the generated `guard_value` and subsequent operations, and a human-readable trace.

```prolog
?- do_trace(b, [i/100, x/5]).
trace
guard_value(x,5,[],b2,op2(x2,mul,var(x),const(2),op2(x3,add,var(x2),const(1),op2(i,sub,var(i),var(x3),op2(c,ge,var(i),const(0),guard_true(c,[],l_done,loop))))))
opttrace
guard_value(x,5,[],b2,op2(x2,mul,var(x),const(2),op2(x3,add,var(x2),const(1),op2(i,sub,var(i),var(x3),op2(c,ge,var(i),const(0),guard_true(c,[],l_done,loop))))))
-10
Writing the trace in a more readable way:
```
guard_value(x,3,[],b2,
op2(x2,mul,var(x),const(2),
op2(x3,add,var(x2),const(1),
op2(i,sub,var(i),var(x3),
op2(c,ge,var(i),const(0),
guard_true(c,[],l_done,
loop))))))
```
```

### Trace Initialization Helper Predicate in Prolog

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2012/01/simple-tracer-for-flow-graph-language-6930951890987229484

A convenience predicate that starts the tracing process by retrieving the code block at a given label and invoking the trace generator with an unbound trace variable and trace anchor. This encapsulates the setup needed to begin trace generation from a specific entry point.

```Prolog
do_trace(L, Env) :-
    block(L, StartBlock),
    trace(StartBlock, Env, ProducedTrace, traceanchor(L, ProducedTrace)).
```

### Partial Evaluation Setup for Bytecode Interpreter (Prolog)

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2012/02/larger-example-for-flow-graph-language-6139699450091061040

This snippet sets up the partial evaluation process for a bytecode interpreter. It defines the static input (bytecode for squaring a number) and initializes the environment with the bytecode and program counter. The dynamic input is the accumulator's content. This code is written in Prolog.

```prolog
?- bytecode_square(B),
Env = [bytecode/B, pc/0],
do_pe(bytecode_loop, Env, Label),
REnv = [a/16, r0/0, r1/0, r2/0],
interp(jump(Label), REnv), listing(block).
256
:- dynamic block/2.
```

### Prolog Interpreter Execution Example

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2012/01/comparing-partial-evaluation-and-7255412724168990164

Demonstrates executing a block-based program through the Prolog interpreter with an initialized environment. This example shows how to invoke the interpreter with a named block and environment variables, executing the power calculation program.

```prolog
$ swipl -s cfglang.pl
?- block(power, Block), interp(Block, [x/10, y/10]).
10000000000
```

### Prolog: Example Loop Control Flow

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2012/01/simple-tracer-for-flow-graph-language-6930951890987229484

This Prolog code defines the control flow blocks for an example loop. It includes conditional jumps, printing, and the `promote` operation used to hint that the variable `x` might be stable.

```prolog
block(l, op2(c, ge, var(i), const(0),
         if(c, b, l_done))).
block(l_done, print_and_stop(var(i))).
block(b, promote(x, b2)).
block(b2, op2(x2, mul, var(x), const(2),
          op2(x3, add, var(x2), const(1),
          op2(i, sub, var(i), var(x3),
          jump(l))))).
```

### Example of Generate Assignments Output (Prolog)

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2012/02/optimizing-traces-of-flow-graph-4169388883059419385

This is an example query and its result in Prolog, demonstrating how the `generate_assignments` predicate works. When provided with a partial environment `[x/5, y/10]`, it generates the corresponding assignment operations that will be prepended to the loop statement.

```prolog
?- generate_assignments([x/5, y/10], Out).
Out = op1(x, same, const(5), op1(y, same, const(10), loop)).
```

### Create Entry Point for Virtual Machine Initialization

Source: https://pypy.org/blog/index-39

Defines the entry point function that initializes a bytecode chunk, writes sample instructions, and disassembles the result for verification. Also includes the target function for RPython compilation that sets the executable name to 'vm1'. This serves as the main program entry for testing the virtual machine infrastructure.

```Python
def entry_point(argv):
    bytecode = Chunk()
    bytecode.write_chunk(OpCode.OP_ADD)
    bytecode.write_chunk(OpCode.OP_RETURN)
    bytecode.disassemble("hello world")
    return 0
def target(driver, *args):
    driver.exe_name = "vm1"
    return entry_point, None
```

### Troubleshooting Numpy Library Loading Errors in PyPy

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2015/02/linalg-support-in-pypynumpy-1131217944329711855

An example of an OSError encountered when trying to load a numpy library file within a PyPy installation on macOS. This suggests issues with file paths or library availability.

```bash
OSError: Cannot load library /usr/local/Cellar/pypy/2.5.0/libexec/site-packages/numpy/linalg/libumath_linalg_cffi.so: dlopen(/usr/local/Cellar/pypy/2.5.0/libexec/site-packages/numpy/linalg/libumath_linalg_cffi.so, 2): image not found
### Z3 Infrastructure Setup for Unit Test Integration in Python
Source: https://pypy.org/blog/index-45
Provides helper functions and setup infrastructure for integrating Z3 proofs into unit tests. Defines BitVec wrapper functions for consistent 64-bit integer width, establishes z3_setup_variables() to initialize solvers with linked concrete and abstract value pairs, and implements a prove() function that checks for unsatisfiable negations of conditions.
```python
INTEGER_WIDTH = 64

def BitVec(name):
    return z3.BitVec(name, INTEGER_WIDTH)

def BitVecVal(val):
    return z3.BitVecVal(val, INTEGER_WIDTH)

def z3_setup_variables():
    # instantiate a solver
    solver = z3.Solver()

    # a Z3 variable for the first concrete value
    n1 = BitVec("n1")
    # a KnownBits instances that uses Z3 variables as its ones and unknowns,
    # representing the first abstract value
    k1 = KnownBits(BitVec("n1_ones"), BitVec("n1_unkowns"))
    # add the precondition to the solver that the concrete value n1 must be a
    # member of the abstract value k1
    solver.add(k1.contains(n1))

    # a Z3 variable for the second concrete value
    n2 = BitVec("n2")
    # a KnownBits instances for the second abstract value
    k2 = KnownBits(BitVec("n2_ones"), BitVec("n2_unkowns"))
    # add the precondition linking n2 and k2 to the solver
    solver.add(k2.contains(n2))
    return solver, k1, n1, k2, n2

def prove(cond, solver):
    z3res = solver.check(z3.Not(cond))
    if z3res != z3.unsat:
        assert z3res == z3.sat # can't be timeout, we set no timeout
```
### Example Tokenization Output in Python
Source: https://pypy.org/blog/index-39
Illustrates the expected output of the scanner for a specific input string. It shows the creation of 'Token' objects, including their start position, length, and type, based on the expression "( 1 + 2.0 )" which is parsed.
```python
Token(0, 1, TokenTypes.LEFT_PAREN)
Token(2, 1, TokenTypes.NUMBER)
Token(4, 1, TokenTypes.PLUS)
Token(6, 3, TokenTypes.NUMBER)
Token(10, 1, TokenTypes.RIGHT_PAREN)

### Get Token String Representation in PyPy

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2018/11/guest-post-implementing-calculator-repl-6271483514675006846

The `get_token_string` method retrieves the actual string value of a token from the source code using its `start` and `length` properties. It includes assertions to ensure valid slicing and handles `ErrorToken` messages.

```python
    def get_token_string(self, token):
        if isinstance(token, ErrorToken):
            return token.message
        else:
            end_loc = token.start + token.length
            assert end_loc <= len(self.source)
            assert token.start >= 0
            return self.source[token.start:end_loc]
### Example Power Computation Trace Generation and Execution
Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2012/01/simple-tracer-for-flow-graph-language-6930951890987229484
Demonstrates tracing and executing a power computation with initial environment containing res=1, x=10, y=20. Shows the generated trace structure with guard_true at the conditional, then executes the trace to produce the final result.
```Prolog

### JITDriver and Match Function in Python

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2010/06/jit-for-regular-expression-matching-3877859053629057968

Demonstrates the setup of PyPy's JITDriver and a Python function 'match' that utilizes JIT hints for optimization. The JITDriver tracks specific variables ('red' and 'green') within the dispatch loop, while 'can_enter_jit' and 'jit_merge_point' guide the JIT compiler.

```python
jitdriver = jit.JitDriver(reds=["i", "result", "s"], greens=["re"])
def match(re, s):
    if not s:
        return re.empty
    # shift a mark in from the left
    result = re.shift(s[0], 1)
    i = 1
    while i < len(s):
        jitdriver.can_enter_jit(i=i, result=result, s=s, re=re)
        jitdriver.jit_merge_point(i=i, result=result, s=s, re=re)
        # shift the internal marks around
        result = re.shift(s[i], 0)
        i += 1
    re.reset()
    return result
### Z3 Python API: Proving Statements with Counterexamples
Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2024/07/finding-simple-rewrite-rules-jit-z3
Explains how to use Z3 for proving statements by searching for counterexamples. It demonstrates checking the negation of a statement; if the negation is unsatisfiable, the original statement is proven true. It also shows how Z3 can find a counterexample if a statement is not universally true.
```python
solver.check(z3.Not(x ^ -1 == ~x)) # Proving a statement is true
print(solver.check(z3.Not(x ^ -1 == x))) # Checking if a statement is universally true
print(solver.model()) # Retrieving a counterexample

### Naive Interpreter Tracing with do_trace (Prolog)

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2012/02/larger-example-for-flow-graph-language-6139699450091061040

This Prolog code demonstrates a naive approach to tracing the interpreter by starting at the 'bytecode_loop' label. The resulting traces are often short and less informative due to the limitations of this tracing method.

```prolog
### RPython Applying Peephole Optimizer Example
Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2024/11/guest-post-final-encoding-in-rpython
This snippet demonstrates how to apply the peephole optimizer factory. It calls `makePeephole` with `AsStr` to get an optimized version of `AsStr` and a `finishStr` function. This allows for parsing and printing optimized ASTs efficiently.
```python
AsStr, finishStr = makePeephole(AsStr)

### Create Compiler Entry Point for Interactive Testing

Source: https://pypy.org/blog/index-39

Establishes a command-line interface entry point that reads source code expressions line-by-line, compiles them to bytecode with debugging enabled, and displays the compiled instructions. Requires rpython.rlib for standard I/O operations.

```python
from rpython.rlib import rfile
from compiler import Compiler
LINE_BUFFER_LENGTH = 1024
def entry_point(argv):
    stdin, stdout, stderr = rfile.create_stdio()
    try:
        while True:
            stdout.write("> ")
            source = stdin.readline(LINE_BUFFER_LENGTH)
            compiler = Compiler(source, debugging=True)
### Tape Data Structure - Python
Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2011/04/tutorial-writing-interpreter-with-pypy-3785910476193156295
Defines a Tape class that manages the Brainfuck tape memory with a position pointer. It provides methods to get, set, increment, and decrement values at the current position, and automatically expands the tape to the right with zero-initialized cells as needed. The tape starts with a single cell containing zero.
```python
class Tape(object):
    def __init__(self):
        self.thetape = [0]
        self.position = 0

    def get(self):
        return self.thetape[self.position]
    def set(self, val):
        self.thetape[self.position] = val
    def inc(self):
        self.thetape[self.position] += 1
    def dec(self):
        self.thetape[self.position] -= 1
    def advance(self):
        self.position += 1
        if len(self.thetape) <= self.position:
            self.thetape.append(0)
    def devance(self):
        self.position -= 1
```
### Interactive Z3 Proof of Transfer Function Correctness in Python REPL
Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2024/08/toy-knownbits
Demonstrates manual proof of transfer function correctness using Z3 solver in an interactive Python environment. Shows how to create Z3 bitvector variables, construct KnownBits instances with Z3 formulas via operator overloading, and prove correctness conditions by checking for counterexamples. The example reveals a common mistake of forgetting to add preconditions to the solver.
```python
import z3
solver = z3.Solver()
# like last blog post, proof by failing to find counterexamples
def prove(cond): assert solver.check(z3.Not(cond)) == z3.unsat

# let's set up a z3 bitvector variable for an arbitrary concrete value
n1 = z3.BitVec('concrete_value', 64)
n1
# concrete_value
# due to operator overloading we can manipulate z3 formulas
n2 = ~n1
n2
# ~concrete_value

# now z3 bitvector variables for the ones and zeros fields
ones = z3.BitVec('abstract_ones', 64)
unknowns = z3.BitVec('abstract_unknowns', 64)
# we construct a KnownBits instance with the z3 variables
k1 = KnownBits(ones, unknowns)
# due to operator overloading we can call the methods on k1:
k2 = k1.abstract_invert()
k2.ones
# ~abstract_unknowns & ~abstract_ones
k2.unknowns
# abstract_unknowns
# here's the correctness condition that we want to prove:
k2.contains(n2)
# ~concrete_value & ~abstract_unknowns ==
# ~abstract_unknowns & ~abstract_ones
# let's try
prove(k2.contains(n2))
# Traceback (most recent call last):
#   File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
#   File "<stdin>", line 1, in prove
# AssertionError
# it doesn't work! let's look at the counterexample to see why:
solver.model()
# [abstract_unknowns = 0,
#  abstract_ones = 0,
#  concrete_value = 1]
# we can build a KnownBits instance with the values in the
# counterexample:

counter_example_k1 = KnownBits(0, 0)
counter_example_k1
# KnownBits.from_constant(0)

### Create setup.py with Setuptools and CFFI Dependencies

Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2015/05/cffi-10-beta-1-4375652711495636911

Demonstrates how to configure a setup.py file using setuptools with CFFI dependencies. The snippet shows three key CFFI-related configurations: setup_requires for build-time dependencies, cffi_modules for specifying CFFI module builders, and install_requires for runtime dependencies. Note: cffi-runtime package mentioned may require cffi>=1.0.dev0 as a temporary alternative.

```python
This snippet demonstrates the conceptual approach to using Fusil for fuzzing. It involves setting up the fuzzer to call interpreter functions with random arguments and defining what constitutes a 'problem' (e.g., segfault, uncaught exception). The actual implementation would involve more detailed setup specific to the PyPy interpreter and its modules.
```python
import fusil

def run(fuzzer):
    # Code to call PyPy functions with random arguments
    pass

def check(child):
    # Check for segfaults or uncaught RPython exceptions
    return child.returncode != 0 or child.exception_raised

if __name__ == '__main__':
    fuzzer = fusil.Fuzzer(run, check)
    fuzzer.fuzz()

### Program with initial intervals

Source: https://pypy.org/blog

This snippet shows an initial program structure with variables and operations, defining intervals for variables 'x' and 'y'. It serves as a baseline before optimization.

```text
x var-x     # [-1, 1]
y var-y     # [-1, 1]
m min x y   # [-1, 1]
out sign m
### PyPy JIT Driver and Interpreter Loop Example (Python)
Source: https://pypy.org/posts/2009/03/jit-bit-of-look-inside-7472130507462677287
This Python code demonstrates a basic interpreter loop for a custom language 'X' with JIT hints. It defines operations like CO_INCREASE, CO_DECREASE, and CO_JUMP_BACK_3, and uses PyPy's `JitDriver` to guide the JIT compilation process. The `jit_merge_point` and `can_enter_jit` calls are crucial for JIT optimization.
```python
    jitdriver = JitDriver(greens = ['i'], reds = ['res', 'a'])
    code = [CO_INCREASE, CO_INCREASE, CO_INCREASE,
            CO_JUMP_BACK_3, CO_INCREASE, CO_DECREASE]

    def add(res, a):
        return res + a

    def sub(res, a):
        return res - a

    def main_interpreter_loop(a):
        i = 0
        res = 0
        c = len(code)
        while i < c:
            jitdriver.jit_merge_point(res=res, i=i, a=a)
            elem = code[i]
            if elem == CO_INCREASE:
                res = add(res, a)
            elif elem == CO_DECREASE:
                res = sub(res, a)
            else:
                if res > 100:
                    pass
                else:
                    i = i - 3
                    jitdriver.can_enter_jit(res=res, i=i, a=a)
                    continue
            i = i + 1
        return res

### Bytecode Generation Example in Python

Source: https://pypy.org/blog/index-39

An example function demonstrating how to construct a simple bytecode chunk. It defines constants, writes OP_CONSTANT instructions with their respective constant indices, performs an addition, and terminates with an OP_RETURN instruction. This serves as a basic test case for the VM.

```python
def entry_point(argv):
    bytecode = Chunk()
    constant = bytecode.add_constant(1)
    bytecode.write_chunk(OpCode.OP_CONSTANT)
    bytecode.write_chunk(constant)
    constant = bytecode.add_constant(2)
    bytecode.write_chunk(OpCode.OP_CONSTANT)
    bytecode.write_chunk(constant)
    bytecode.write_chunk(OpCode.OP_ADD)
    bytecode.write_chunk(OpCode.OP_RETURN)
    vm = VM()
    vm.interpret_chunk(bytecode)
    return 0
