### Configure BIRD to Use Dummy Interface (BIRD Configuration)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/vps/bgp-vps-configuration

This BIRD configuration block tells the BIRD daemon to use any interface starting with 'dummy' for direct communication. This is essential after creating a dummy interface to route traffic correctly. This should be added to your `/etc/bird/bird.conf` file.

```bird
protocol direct {
    interface "dummy*"
    import none;
}
```

### Bind IP to Dummy Interface (Debian/Ubuntu - interfaces)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/vps/bgp-vps-configuration

This configuration snippet is added to `/etc/network/interfaces` to bind your announced IP addresses to a dummy network interface. This allows your VPS to use the IPs you are announcing via BGP. The `pre-up` command ensures the dummy interface is created before the IP is assigned.

```bash
auto dummy1
iface dummy1 inet static
    address <an IP address>/24
    pre-up ip link add dummy1 type dummy
```

### Configure Velocity Proxy Forwarding (TOML)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/advanced-setup/how-to-set-up-a-network

This configuration snippet for Velocity, a modern Minecraft proxy, demonstrates setting up player information forwarding and a secret for secure backend connections. It includes defining backend servers and the initial server players connect to.

```toml
player-info-forwarding-mode = "modern"
forwarding-secret = "YOUR_FORWARDING_SECRET"
[servers]
  [servers.lobby]
    address = "localhost:25577"
    restricted = false
  [servers.survival]
    address = "localhost:25578"
    restricted = false
[try]
  "lobby"
  "survival"
```

### Configure Backend Server for Velocity Support (YAML)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/advanced-setup/how-to-set-up-a-network

This snippet illustrates the necessary configuration in `paper.yml` for a backend Minecraft server to work with Velocity. It enables Velocity support, sets online mode, and specifies the forwarding secret for secure authentication.

```yaml
velocity-support:
  enabled: true
  online-mode: true
  secret: "YOUR_FORWARDING_SECRET"
```

### Bind IP to Dummy Interface (Ubuntu - Netplan)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/vps/bgp-vps-configuration

This Netplan configuration defines a dummy network interface for use with BGP. It specifies that the interface should not use DHCP or accept router advertisements and assigns a static IP address. This configuration is typically saved in a file like `/etc/netplan/02-dummy.yml`.

```yaml
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd
  bridges:
    dummy1:
      dhcp4: no
      dhcp6: no
      accept-ra: no
      interfaces: [ ]
      addresses:
        - <an IP address>/24
```

### Apply Aikar's Flags for Minecraft Server Optimization (Java)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/optimization/how-to-apply-aikars-flags

This Java command applies Aikar's optimized flags to a Minecraft server's startup script. It includes memory allocation, garbage collection tuning, and other performance enhancements. Ensure you adjust the RAM (`-Xms`, `-Xmx`) and server jar file (`server.jar`) to match your specific needs.

```bash
java -Xms4096M -Xmx4096M -Dterminal.jline=false -Dterminal.ansi=true -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:+ParallelRefProcEnabled -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=200 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:G1HeapWastePercent=5 -XX:G1MixedGCCountTarget=4 -XX:G1MixedGCLiveThresholdPercent=90 -XX:G1RSetUpdatingPauseTimePercent=5 -XX:SurvivorRatio=32 -XX:+PerfDisableSharedMem -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=1 -XX:G1NewSizePercent=30 -XX:G1MaxNewSizePercent=40 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=8M -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:InitiatingHeapOccupancyPercent=15 -Dusing.aikars.flags=https://mcflags.emc.gs -Daikars.new.flags=true -jar server.jar nogui
```

### Configure BIRD for BGP Session (BIRD Configuration)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/vps/bgp-vps-configuration

This BIRD configuration is used to set up a BGP session on your VPS. It defines static routes, device scanning, and two BGP protocol instances to connect to Pufferfish Host's redundant route servers. Ensure you replace placeholders like '<your VPS IP>', '<Your ASN>', and '<BGP Password>' with your specific details.

```bird
router id <your VPS IP>;
protocol static {
    route <your prefix>/24 via <your VPS IP>;
}
protocol device {
        scan time 60;
}
protocol bgp {
    local as <Your ASN>;
    neighbor 185.135.158.221 as 65121;
    import all;
    export all;
    graceful restart on;
    password "<BGP Password>";
}
protocol bgp {
    local as <Your ASN>;
    neighbor 185.135.158.225 as 65121;
    import all;
    export all;
    graceful restart on;
    password "<BGP Password>";
}
```

### Configure BungeeGuard Token on Backend Server (YAML)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/advanced-setup/how-to-set-up-a-network

This snippet shows how to add a security token to the BungeeGuard configuration on a backend Minecraft server. This token is essential for authenticating connections through a Bungeecord proxy and preventing impersonation.

```yaml
allowed-tokens:
  - "KUax93mll7B8WavaD2VI5p4J9Dkvt5T7A7NdfT0D1ZmSpZ1JYvm8heymWn6GHZBu"
```

### Add Pufferfish Specific Optimization Flag (Java)

Source: https://docs.pufferfish.host/optimization/how-to-apply-aikars-flags

This command shows how to add an extra optimization flag (`--add-modules=jdk.incubator.vector`) when using Pufferfish server software. This flag enables experimental Java features for further performance gains. It should be added before the `-jar` argument in your startup script.

```bash
java -Xms4096M -Xmx4096M -Dterminal.jline=false -Dterminal.ansi=true -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:+ParallelRefProcEnabled -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=200 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:G1HeapWastePercent=5 -XX:G1MixedGCCountTarget=4 -XX:G1MixedGCLiveThresholdPercent=90 -XX:G1RSetUpdatingPauseTimePercent=5 -XX:SurvivorRatio=32 -XX:+PerfDisableSharedMem -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=1 -XX:G1NewSizePercent=30 -XX:G1MaxNewSizePercent=40 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=8M -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:InitiatingHeapOccupancyPercent=15 -Dusing.aikars.flags=https://mcflags.emc.gs -Daikars.new.flags=true --add-modules=jdk.incubator.vector -jar server.jar nogui
```
