### Geolocator example main.dart

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Main example file for the geolocator plugin, demonstrating setup, UI, and menu actions for location services. It uses the Baseflow plugin template and defines a StatefulWidget with a popup menu for actions like getting location accuracy, requesting temporary full accuracy, opening app settings, and opening location settings. The code is truncated at the end of the provided source.

```dart
import 'dart:async';
import 'dart:io' show Platform;
import 'package:baseflow_plugin_template/baseflow_plugin_template.dart';
import 'package:flutter/material.dart';
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';
/// Defines the main theme color.
final MaterialColor themeMaterialColor =
    BaseflowPluginExample.createMaterialColor(
        const Color.fromRGBO(48, 49, 60, 1));
void main() {
  runApp(const GeolocatorWidget());
}
/// Example [Widget] showing the functionalities of the geolocator plugin
### Manage service status stream with error handling
Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example
Starts listening to the service status stream from the geolocator platform. If the service is enabled and the position stream is started, it toggles listening. If disabled, it cancels the position stream and logs the cancellation. Errors cancel the subscription.
```dart
  void _toggleServiceStatusStream() {
    if (_serviceStatusStreamSubscription == null) {
      final serviceStatusStream = _geolocatorPlatform.getServiceStatusStream();
      _serviceStatusStreamSubscription =
          serviceStatusStream.handleError((error) {
        _serviceStatusStreamSubscription?.cancel();
        _serviceStatusStreamSubscription = null;
      }).listen((serviceStatus) {
        String serviceStatusValue;
        if (serviceStatus == ServiceStatus.enabled) {
          if (positionStreamStarted) {
            _toggleListening();
          }
          serviceStatusValue = 'enabled';
        } else {
          if (_positionStreamSubscription != null) {
            setState(() {
              _positionStreamSubscription?.cancel();
              _positionStreamSubscription = null;
              _updatePositionList(
                  _PositionItemType.log, 'Position Stream has been canceled');
            });
          }
          serviceStatusValue = 'disabled';
        }
        _updatePositionList(
          _PositionItemType.log,
          'Location service has been $serviceStatusValue',
        );
      });
    }
  }
```
### Toggle position stream listening with pause/resume
Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example
Starts listening to the position stream if not already active, then toggles between paused and resumed states. On error, the subscription is canceled. Updates the UI with the new status.
```dart
  void _toggleListening() {
    if (_positionStreamSubscription == null) {
      final positionStream = _geolocatorPlatform.getPositionStream();
      _positionStreamSubscription = positionStream.handleError((error) {
        _positionStreamSubscription?.cancel();
        _positionStreamSubscription = null;
      }).listen((position) => _updatePositionList(
            _PositionItemType.position,
            position.toString(),
          ));
      _positionStreamSubscription?.pause();
    }

    setState(() {
      if (_positionStreamSubscription == null) {
        return;
      }

      String statusDisplayValue;
      if (_positionStreamSubscription!.isPaused) {
        _positionStreamSubscription!.resume();
        statusDisplayValue = 'resumed';
      } else {
        _positionStreamSubscription!.pause();
        statusDisplayValue = 'paused';
      }

      _updatePositionList(
        _PositionItemType.log,
        'Listening for position updates $statusDisplayValue',
      );
    });
  }
```
```

--------------------------------

### Calculate distance with Geolocator.distanceBetween

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Calculates the distance in meters between two geocoordinates using the distanceBetween method, which takes start and end latitude/longitude parameters.

```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';
double distanceInMeters = Geolocator.distanceBetween(52.2165157, 6.9437819, 52.3546274, 4.8285838);
```

--------------------------------

### Determine current position with geolocator

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Example function that checks if location services are enabled, requests permission if needed, and returns the current position. Returns errors if services are disabled or permissions are denied.

```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';
/// Determine the current position of the device.
///
/// When the location services are not enabled or permissions
/// are denied the `Future` will return an error.
Future<Position> _determinePosition() async {
  bool serviceEnabled;
  LocationPermission permission;
  // Test if location services are enabled.
  serviceEnabled = await Geolocator.isLocationServiceEnabled();
  if (!serviceEnabled) {
    // Location services are not enabled don't continue
    // accessing the position and request users of the
    // App to enable the location services.
    return Future.error('Location services are disabled.');
  }
  permission = await Geolocator.checkPermission();
  if (permission == LocationPermission.denied) {
    permission = await Geolocator.requestPermission();
    if (permission == LocationPermission.denied) {
      // Permissions are denied, next time you could try
      // requesting permissions again (this is also where
      // Android's shouldShowRequestPermissionRationale
      // returned true. According to Android guidelines
      // your App should show an explanatory UI now.
      return Future.error('Location permissions are denied');
    }
  }
  if (permission == LocationPermission.deniedForever) {
    // Permissions are denied forever, handle appropriately.
    return Future.error(
      'Location permissions are permanently denied, we cannot request permissions.');
  }
  // When we reach here, permissions are granted and we can
  // continue accessing the position of the device.
  return await Geolocator.getCurrentPosition();
}
```

--------------------------------

### Render position list items with ListTile and Card

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Renders a log entry as a centered white bold ListTile, or a position entry as a Card with a colored tile. Used in the geolocator example's list builder to distinguish log messages from position results.

```dart
if (positionItem.type == _PositionItemType.log) {
  return ListTile(
    title: Text(positionItem.displayValue,
        textAlign: TextAlign.center,
        style: const TextStyle(
          color: Colors.white,
          fontWeight: FontWeight.bold,
        )),
  );
} else {
  return Card(
    child: ListTile(
      tileColor: themeMaterialColor,
      title: Text(
        positionItem.displayValue,
        style: const TextStyle(color: Colors.white),
      ),
    ),
  );
}
},
```

--------------------------------

### Get current position with permission check

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Requests the current position after checking permission. If permission is denied, it returns early; otherwise it calls getCurrentPosition() and adds the result to the position list.

```dart
Future<void> _getCurrentPosition() async {
  final hasPermission = await _handlePermission();
  if (!hasPermission) {
    return;
  }
  final position = await _geolocatorPlatform.getCurrentPosition();
  _updatePositionList(
    _PositionItemType.position,
    position.toString(),
  );
}
```

--------------------------------

### Open app settings

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Attempts to open the application settings. Logs whether it was opened successfully or an error occurred.

```dart
  void _openAppSettings() async {
    final opened = await _geolocatorPlatform.openAppSettings();
    String displayValue;
    if (opened) {
      displayValue = 'Opened Application Settings.';
    } else {
      displayValue = 'Error opening Application Settings.';
    }
    _updatePositionList(
      _PositionItemType.log,
      displayValue,
    );
  }
```

--------------------------------

### getCurrentPosition

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Dart method to get the current device location.

```APIDOC
## getCurrentPosition
### Description
Queries the current location of the device. Allows fine-tuning the results by specifying the desired accuracy and a time limit.
### Method
Dart method call
### Endpoint
`Geolocator.getCurrentPosition`
### Parameters
- `locationSettings` (LocationSettings) - Optional - Settings for the location request, including accuracy and distance filter.
### Request Example
```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';

final LocationSettings locationSettings = LocationSettings(
  accuracy: LocationAccuracy.high,
  distanceFilter: 100,
);

Position position = await Geolocator.getCurrentPosition(locationSettings: locationSettings);
```
### Response
Returns a `Position` object containing the current location.
### Errors
Throws a `TimeoutException` if the time limit is exceeded.
```

--------------------------------

### Configure Platform Specific Location Settings

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Use AndroidSettings, AppleSettings, and WebSettings to define platform-specific location behavior. Ensure the corresponding platform packages are imported when using these classes.

```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';
import 'package:geolocator_android/geolocator_android.dart';
import 'package:geolocator_android/geolocator_web.dart';
import 'package:geolocator_apple/geolocator_apple.dart';
late LocationSettings locationSettings;
if (defaultTargetPlatform == TargetPlatform.android) {
  locationSettings = AndroidSettings(
      accuracy: LocationAccuracy.high,
      distanceFilter: 100,
      forceLocationManager: true,
      intervalDuration: const Duration(seconds: 10),
      //(Optional) Set foreground notification config to keep the app alive
      //when going to the background
      foregroundNotificationConfig: const ForegroundNotificationConfig(
        notificationText:
        "Example app will continue to receive your location even when you aren't using it",
        notificationTitle: "Running in Background",
        enableWakeLock: true,
      )
  );
} else if (defaultTargetPlatform == TargetPlatform.iOS || defaultTargetPlatform == TargetPlatform.macOS) {
  locationSettings = AppleSettings(
    accuracy: LocationAccuracy.high,
    activityType: ActivityType.fitness,
    distanceFilter: 100,
    pauseLocationUpdatesAutomatically: true,
    // Only set to true if our app will be started up in the background.
    showBackgroundLocationIndicator: false,
  );
} else if (kIsWeb) {
  locationSettings = WebSettings(
    accuracy: LocationAccuracy.high,
    distanceFilter: 100,
    maximumAge: Duration(minutes: 5),
  );
} else {
  locationSettings = LocationSettings(
    accuracy: LocationAccuracy.high,
    distanceFilter: 100,
  );
}
// supply location settings to getCurrentPosition
Position position = await Geolocator.getCurrentPosition(locationSettings: locationSettings);
// supply location settings to getPositionStream
StreamSubscription<Position> positionStream = Geolocator.getPositionStream(locationSettings: locationSettings).listen(
        (Position? position) {
      print(position == null ? 'Unknown' : '${position.latitude.toString()}, ${position.longitude.toString()}');
    });
```

--------------------------------

### Open location settings

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Attempts to open the location settings. Logs whether it was opened successfully or an error occurred.

```dart
  void _openLocationSettings() async {
    final opened = await _geolocatorPlatform.openLocationSettings();
    String displayValue;
    if (opened) {
      displayValue = 'Opened Location Settings';
    } else {
      displayValue = 'Error opening Location Settings';
    }
    _updatePositionList(
      _PositionItemType.log,
      displayValue,
    );
  }
```

--------------------------------

### Geolocator.openAppSettings()

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Opens the app-specific settings page on the device. On Android, redirects to the app settings; on iOS, redirects to the Settings app.

```APIDOC
## Geolocator.openAppSettings()
### Description
Opens the app-specific settings page on the device. On Android, redirects to the app settings; on iOS, redirects to the Settings app.
### Method
openAppSettings
### Example
```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';

await Geolocator.openAppSettings();
```
```

--------------------------------

### Get location accuracy

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Retrieves the current location accuracy status and handles it via _handleLocationAccuracyStatus.

```dart
  void _getLocationAccuracy() async {
    final status = await _geolocatorPlatform.getLocationAccuracy();
    _handleLocationAccuracyStatus(status);
  }
```

--------------------------------

### Create floating action buttons for position controls

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Builds the floating action buttons for toggling position updates, fetching the current position, and fetching the last known position. The first button's tooltip and icon change based on subscription state, and its background color is determined by _determineButtonColor().

```dart
floatingActionButton: Column(
  crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.end,
  mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.end,
  children: [
    FloatingActionButton(
      onPressed: () {
        positionStreamStarted = !positionStreamStarted;
        _toggleListening();
      },
      tooltip: (_positionStreamSubscription == null)
          ? 'Start position updates'
          : _positionStreamSubscription!.isPaused
              ? 'Resume'
              : 'Pause',
      backgroundColor: _determineButtonColor(),
      child: (_positionStreamSubscription == null ||
              _positionStreamSubscription!.isPaused)
          ? const Icon(Icons.play_arrow)
          : const Icon(Icons.pause),
    ),
    sizedBox,
    FloatingActionButton(
      onPressed: _getCurrentPosition,
      child: const Icon(Icons.my_location),
    ),
    sizedBox,
    FloatingActionButton(
      onPressed: _getLastKnownPosition,
      child: const Icon(Icons.bookmark),
    ),
  ],
),
```

--------------------------------

### Open app or location settings with Geolocator.openAppSettings and openLocationSettings

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Redirects the user to device settings. On Android, openAppSettings opens app-specific settings and openLocationSettings opens location settings. On iOS, both open the Settings app.

```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';
await Geolocator.openAppSettings();
await Geolocator.openLocationSettings();
```

--------------------------------

### Handle location permissions with service and permission checks

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Checks and requests location permissions, handling service disabled, denied, and deniedForever cases. Returns true only when permissions are granted, and logs the outcome via _updatePositionList().

```dart
Future<bool> _handlePermission() async {
  bool serviceEnabled;
  LocationPermission permission;
  // Test if location services are enabled.
  serviceEnabled = await _geolocatorPlatform.isLocationServiceEnabled();
  if (!serviceEnabled) {
    // Location services are not enabled don't continue
    // accessing the position and request users of the
    // App to enable the location services.
    _updatePositionList(
      _PositionItemType.log,
      _kLocationServicesDisabledMessage,
    );
    return false;
  }
  permission = await _geolocatorPlatform.checkPermission();
  if (permission == LocationPermission.denied) {
    permission = await _geolocatorPlatform.requestPermission();
    if (permission == LocationPermission.denied) {
      // Permissions are denied, next time you could try
      // requesting permissions again (this is also where
      // Android's shouldShowRequestPermissionRationale
      // returned true. According to Android guidelines
      // your App should show an explanatory UI now.
      _updatePositionList(
        _PositionItemType.log,
        _kPermissionDeniedMessage,
      );
      return false;
    }
  }
  if (permission == LocationPermission.deniedForever) {
    // Permissions are denied forever, handle appropriately.
    _updatePositionList(
      _PositionItemType.log,
      _kPermissionDeniedForeverMessage,
    );
    return false;
  }
  // When we reach here, permissions are granted and we can
  // continue accessing the position of the device.
  _updatePositionList(
    _PositionItemType.log,
    _kPermissionGrantedMessage,
  );
  return true;
}
```

--------------------------------

### Get last known position

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator/example

Retrieves the last known position from the geolocator platform. If a position is available, it updates the list; otherwise, it logs a message.

```dart
  void _getLastKnownPosition() async {
    final position = await _geolocatorPlatform.getLastKnownPosition();
    if (position != null) {
      _updatePositionList(
        _PositionItemType.position,
        position.toString(),
      );
    } else {
      _updatePositionList(
        _PositionItemType.log,
        'No last known position available',
      );
    }
  }
```

--------------------------------

### Get last known position with geolocator

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Retrieves the last known location stored on the device. May return null if no location details are available.

```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';
Position? position = await Geolocator.getLastKnownPosition();
```

--------------------------------

### Add BYPASS_PERMISSION_LOCATION_ALWAYS flag to Podfile

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Add this post_install hook to your ios/Podfile to automatically set the BYPASS_PERMISSION_LOCATION_ALWAYS=1 preprocessor macro for the geolocator_apple target. This prevents the need for NSLocationAlwaysAndWhenInUseUsageDescription in Info.plist.

```ruby
post_install do |installer|
  installer.pods_project.targets.each do |target|
    if target.name == "geolocator_apple"
      target.build_configurations.each do |config|
        config.build_settings['GCC_PREPROCESSOR_DEFINITIONS'] ||= ['$(inherited)', 'BYPASS_PERMISSION_LOCATION_ALWAYS=1']
      end
    end
  end
end
```

--------------------------------

### Enable AndroidX in gradle.properties

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Required in gradle.properties to enable AndroidX and Jetifier for the geolocator plugin.

```properties
android.useAndroidX=true
android.enableJetifier=true
```

--------------------------------

### Add ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION and ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permissions

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Add these permissions to AndroidManifest.xml as direct children of the <manifest> tag. Request both together in a single runtime request on Android 12+.

```xml
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />
<!-- Include only if your app benefits from precise location access. -->
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
```

--------------------------------

### Get current position with geolocator

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Queries the device's current location using the geolocator package. Configure accuracy and distance filter via LocationSettings. The call returns a Position object.

```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';
final LocationSettings locationSettings = LocationSettings(
  accuracy: LocationAccuracy.high,
  distanceFilter: 100,
);
Position position = await Geolocator.getCurrentPosition(locationSettings: locationSettings);
```

--------------------------------

### Add NSLocationUsageDescription to macOS Info.plist

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Add this entry to your macOS Info.plist (located under macOS/Runner) to access the device's location. Update the description to be meaningful for your app.

```xml
<key>NSLocationUsageDescription</key>
<string>This app needs access to location.</string>
```

--------------------------------

### Geolocator.openLocationSettings()

Source: https://pub.dev/packages/geolocator

Opens the location settings page on the device. On Android, redirects to location settings; on iOS, redirects to the Settings app.

```APIDOC
## Geolocator.openLocationSettings()
### Description
Opens the location settings page on the device. On Android, redirects to location settings; on iOS, redirects to the Settings app.
### Method
openLocationSettings
### Example
```dart
import 'package:geolocator/geolocator.dart';

await Geolocator.openLocationSettings();
