### Example of display connection error on Linux

Source: https://ostinato.org/docs/faq

This error occurs when attempting to run the Ostinato GUI as the root user.

```text
root@potter:/home# ostinato
qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vnc, xcb.
### Enable Debug Logging on Linux
Source: https://ostinato.org/docs/faq
Commands to enable Qt debug logging on Linux systems.
```bash
export QT_LOGGING_RULES="*.debug=true"
```
```bash
QT_LOGGING_RULES="*.debug=true" ostinato -d
QT_LOGGING_RULES="*.debug=true" drone -d
```
### Assign network capabilities to Drone on Linux
Source: https://ostinato.org/docs/faq
Use setcap to grant specific network privileges to the drone binary as an alternative to running as root.
```bash
setcap cap_net_raw,cap_net_admin=eip /usr/bin/drone
```
--------------------------------
### Set SUID root for Drone on Linux
Source: https://ostinato.org/docs/faq
Assign full root privileges to the drone binary if the setcap utility is not supported by the distribution.
```bash
chown root /usr/bin/drone
chmod u+s /usr/bin/drone
```
--------------------------------
### Configure Proxy Environment Variables for Linux
Source: https://ostinato.org/docs/faq
Set these environment variables to allow the Drone agent to reach the licensing server. Ensure variables are lowercase and include the protocol prefix.
```bash
http_proxy=http://proxy:8080
https_proxy=http://proxy:8080
no_proxy=localhost,127.0.0.1,::1
```
### Calculate Data and Line Rates for Fixed Packet Sizes
Source: https://ostinato.org/docs/faq
Use these formulas to determine throughput when using a fixed packet size in your streams.
```text
Data Rate (in Mbps) = (fps * packetSize * 8)/1000000
Line Rate (in Mbps) = (fps * (packetSize+20) * 8)/1000000
```
--------------------------------
### Set setUID bit for Drone
Source: https://ostinato.org/docs/pqshow52
Grant elevated privileges to the Drone application by setting the setUID bit.
```bash
chmod u+s drone
```
--------------------------------
### Calculate Data Rate for Mixed Packet Sizes
Source: https://ostinato.org/docs/faq
Use this formula to determine the data rate when your stream contains a mix of different packet sizes.
```text
Date Rate (in Mbps) = (Bps*8)/1000000
```
