### Install mailparser with npm

Source: https://nodemailer.com/extras/mailparser/index

Installs the mailparser package using npm. This is the first step before using the library in your Node.js project.

```bash
npm install mailparser
```

### Customize Character Set Decoding with node-iconv

Source: https://nodemailer.com/extras/mailparser/index

This example shows how to integrate a custom `iconv` implementation, specifically `node-iconv`, with `simpleParser`. By injecting your `Iconv` object, you can control character set conversions if the default `iconv-lite` is insufficient or if you have specific requirements. The function takes an RFC822 message and an options object.

```javascript
const { Iconv } = require('iconv');
const { simpleParser } = require('mailparser');
simpleParser(rfc822Message, { Iconv })
  .then(mail => /* … */);
```

### Parse email with simpleParser (Node.js)

Source: https://nodemailer.com/extras/mailparser/index

Demonstrates how to use `simpleParser` to parse an email source. Supports callback, Promise, and async/await styles for handling the parsed mail object.

```javascript
const { simpleParser } = require("mailparser");
// Callback style
simpleParser(source, options, (err, mail) => {
  if (err) throw err;
  console.log(mail.subject);
});
// Promise style
simpleParser(source, options)
  .then((mail) => console.log(mail.subject))
  .catch(console.error);
// async/await
const mail = await simpleParser(source, options);
```

### Stream email parsing with MailParser (Node.js)

Source: https://nodemailer.com/extras/mailparser/index

Shows how to use the `MailParser` class as a Transform stream for processing emails. This is suitable for very large messages as it avoids buffering the entire content in memory.

```javascript
const { MailParser } = require("mailparser");
const parser = new MailParser(options);
sourceStream.pipe(parser);
```

### Process Email Attachments as Streams

Source: https://nodemailer.com/extras/mailparser/index

This snippet demonstrates how to process email attachments using a stream API. It listens for 'data' events, pipes attachment content to a writable stream, and ensures attachment resources are released after processing. This is useful for handling large attachments efficiently.

```javascript
parser.on("data", (part) => {
  if (part.type === "attachment") {
    console.log("Attachment:", part.filename);
    part.content.pipe(fs.createWriteStream(part.filename)).on("finish", part.release);
  }
});
