### MP3TAG Filter Syntax Guide

Source: https://docs.mp3tag.de/filter

Provides a comprehensive guide to the filter syntax used in MP3TAG. This includes basic string matching, field-specific operations, and logical operators for complex filtering.

```APIDOC
Filter Syntax:
<string>
  Returns only files that contain every word in the string as a word or substring thereof. A word is a contiguous sequence of characters excluding the space character.
  Example: "Hidden Orchestra" This filter string lists all files that contain the words `Hidden` and `Orchestra` in tags or file names.
<field> HAS <string>
  Returns only files that have all words from `<string>` in their tag field named `<field>`. You can use `*` to address all fields.
  Example: `artist HAS Orchestra` Lists all files where the `artist` field contains `Orchestra` (e.g., Hidden Orchestra and The Cinematic Orchestra).
<field> IS <string>
  Returns only files where the content of at least one tag field named `<field>` is equal to `<string>`.
  Example: `artist IS "Hidden Orchestra"` Lists all files where the `artist` field is `Hidden Orchestra`.
<expr1> AND <expr2>
  Combines the filter expressions `<expr1>` and `<expr2>` by logical _and_. Parentheses can be used to group combined expressions.
  Example: `artist IS Hidden Orchestra AND genre IS "Electronic"`
<expr1> OR <expr2>
  Combines the filter expressions `<expr1>` and `<expr2>` by logical _or_. Parentheses can be used to group combined expressions.
  Example: `artist IS Hidden Orchestra OR artist IS The Cinematic Orchestra` Lists all files where an `artist` field is either `Hidden Orchestra` or `The Cinematic Orchestra`.
NOT <expr>
  Inverts the result of `<expr>`.
  Example: `NOT artist IS "Hidden Orchestra"` Lists all files where the `artist` field is not `Hidden Orchestra`.
<field> GREATER <number>
  Returns only files where the value of `<field>` is numerically greater than `<number>`.
  Example: `year GREATER 1990`
<field> LESS <number>
  Returns only files where the value of `<field>` is numerically less than `<number>`.
  Example: `year LESS 2000`
Notes:
  - If `<field>` or `<string>` contains spaces, it should be enclosed in double quotation marks, e.g., `artist IS "Hidden Orchestra"`.
  - If `<field>` in HAS/IS/GREATER/LESS/EQUAL/MATCHES contains `$` or `%` it should be enclosed in double quotation marks and will be treated as a format string instead of a tag field name.
  - It is not possible to filter for strings containing double quotation marks.
  - To filter for fields containing double quotation marks, use `"$ifgreater($strstr(%field%,$char(34)),0,yes,no)" IS yes` or `field MATCHES \"`.
  - All operations are non-case sensitive. All filter keywords must be uppercase.
```

### Renaming Files Based on Tags in Mp3tag

Source: https://docs.mp3tag.de/getting-started/first-steps

Guide on renaming audio files using tag information in Mp3tag via the 'Tag - Filename' converter. Explains the use of format strings and scripting functions for custom filenames.

```en
Renaming files from tags can be done by using the converter at **Convert → Tag - Filename** with a format string. A format string is used to describe the structure of the desired filename.
You can use normal placeholders (such as `%artist%`, `%title%`, …) and arbitrary text (e.g., Music) in the format string.
Here is an example that renames the file based on the tags using the `Tracknumber. Title` format:
Step 1: Change to a directory containing supported files by using the menu command **File → Change directory...**
Step 2: Select the files you want to rename, `Ctrl`+`A` selects all listed files.
Step 3: Open the Tag to Filename converter at **Convert → Tag - Filename**. Either use the small [helper menu](https://docs.mp3tag.de/menus/format-strings) at **►** to compose or enter the **Format string** manually:
`%track%. %title%`
Step 4: You can see the target file name in the preview label. If want to make sure to always use two-digit track numbers, use the `$num` [scripting function](https://docs.mp3tag.de/scripting/#string-functions) as in:
`$num(%track%,2). %title%`
```

--------------------------------

### Replacing or Removing Text

Source: https://docs.mp3tag.de/getting-started/first-steps

Field: _ALL (or _TAG, _FILENAME, or specific tag field like TITLE)
Original: Text to find
Replace with: Replacement text
```
--------------------------------
### MP3TAG Format String Basics
Source: https://docs.mp3tag.de/converters
Explains the fundamental concept of format strings in MP3TAG, which are used by converters to define patterns for file names. It highlights that format strings consist of characters and placeholders, with placeholders starting with '%' followed by a tag field name and ending with '%'. For example, '%album%' represents the Album field.
```en
A format string consists of any characters and predefined placeholders or scripting functions. Every placeholder begins with the percent sign `%`, followed by a tag field name and ends with the percent sign. For example, the placeholder `%album%` refers to the `Album` field.
```
### MP3TAG v3.30 Release Notes
Source: https://docs.mp3tag.de/getting-started/release-notes
Details the release of MP3TAG v3.30, focusing on improvements for handling multiple files with varying covers, including drag-and-drop functionality and updated menu labels. It also addresses field mapping for Matroska MKV video files for better app compatibility and introduces an ARM64 Explorer context-menu extension.
```en
## Mp3tag v3.30

2025-05-29

### Improvements for Multiple Files with Varying Covers

So far, adding a cover to multiple files with varying covers was only possible via a dedicated action and not directly via drag and drop or the right-click context menu on the Tag Panel. This release adds support for adding covers to files with varying covers (also via drag and drop if the Ctrl key is pressed) at Tag Panel and Extended Tags. It also improves the cover menu labels to indicate which functions are applied to all covers if multiple files with varying covers are selected.

### Field mapping for Matroska MKV video files

The previous version introduced improved internal field mappings for MKV video files, which were not compatible with every app. This release adds an option to disable video-specific mappings for Matroska video to increase compatibility with apps that only read `TITLE` with target type T=30 (see **Options → Tags → Advanced**).

### ARM64 Explorer Context-Menu Extension

Explorer context-menu extensions have the requirement to be made available in the architecture of the host system, i.e., 32-bit, 64-bit, or ARM64 for ARM-based systems. This version adds an ARM64 context-menu extension which shows the Mp3tag menu item on ARM-based Windows installations.

Guess Values:

    - %dummy%: Used to omit information that should not be imported to a tag field.
  Example:
    Source format: %title%
    Guessing pattern: %artist% / %title%
    (Splits a TITLE field like 'Some Artist / Some Title' into ARTIST and TITLE fields.)
