### mongotop positional connection string example

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/mongotop

Example of using the connection string as a positional parameter along with other command line options. The connection string can appear anywhere on the command line as long as it starts with mongodb:// or mongodb+srv://.

```none
mongotop --username joe --password secret1 mongodb://mongodb0.example.com:27017 --ssl
```

--------------------------------

### Install MongoDB Database Tools with brew install

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/installation/?operating-system=macos&package-type=homebrew

Installs the MongoDB Database Tools via Homebrew. Run this after tapping and trusting the MongoDB formula.

```bash
brew install mongodb-database-tools
---
```

--------------------------------

### mongotop output example

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/mongotop

Example output from mongotop when connected to a mongod instance, showing connection message and statistics table.

```sh
2019-04-29T15:35:27.785-0400 connected to: 127.0.0.1
             ns    total      read      write    <timestamp>
<db.collection>    81802ms     0ms    81802ms
...
```

--------------------------------

### Install Database Tools .deb package with apt

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/installation

Installs the downloaded .deb package using the apt package manager. The leading ./ is required to instruct apt to look for the file in the local directory instead of searching remote repositories.

```sh
sudo apt install ./mongodb-database-tools-*-100.19.1.deb
```

--------------------------------

### Restore the test database to the examples database with mongorestore

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/mongorestore/mongorestore-examples

Restores the dumped test database to the examples database on the same instance. Use this after running mongodump to copy the database.

```sh
mongorestore --archive="mongodump-test-db" --nsFrom=
```

--------------------------------

### Restore with Access Control using --host and --port

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/mongorestore/mongorestore-examples

Alternative to the --uri example, specifying host, port, username, and authentication database individually. Omit --password to prompt for it.

```sh
mongorestore --host=mongodb1.example.net --port=27017 --username=user --authenticationDatabase=admin /opt/backup/mongodump-2011-10-24
```

--------------------------------

### Connect to a Replica Set Using --uri Connection String

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/mongoexport

Use this command to connect to a replica set by specifying the replica set name and members in the --uri connection string. The database can be specified as part of the connection string. This example exports the events collection to events.json.

```sh
mongoexport --uri="mongodb://mongodb0.example.com:27017,mongodb1.example.com:27017,mongodb2.example.com:27017/reporting?replicaSet=myReplicaSetName" --collection=events --out=events.json [additional options]
```

--------------------------------

### Check if MongoDB Database Tools are installed with brew list

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/installation/?operating-system=macos&package-type=homebrew

Checks whether the MongoDB Database Tools are already installed on your system when using Homebrew. Run this before installing to avoid duplicate installation.

```bash
brew list | grep mongodb-database-tools
---
```

--------------------------------

### Check if MongoDB Database Tools are installed

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/installation/?operating-system=linux&package-type=deb

Run this command to determine whether the MongoDB Database Tools are already installed on your system. Useful before installing, especially if you already installed the MongoDB Server with your system's package manager.

```bash
sudo dpkg -l mongodb-database-tools
---
```

--------------------------------

### Run mongotop with defaults

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/mongotop

Runs mongotop with default settings, connecting to mongod on localhost:27017 and reporting every second.

```sh
mongotop
```

--------------------------------

### Install Database Tools .rpm package with yum

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/installation

Installs the downloaded .rpm package using the yum package manager.

```sh
sudo yum install -y mongodb-database-tools-*-100.19.1.rpm
```

--------------------------------

### Check installed Database Tools version

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/installation/?operating-system=linux&package-type=rpm

Verifies the installed MongoDB Database Tools version by running the mongodump command with the --version flag.

```bash
mongodump --version
---
```

--------------------------------

### mongotop command line options syntax

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/mongotop

Alternative syntax for mongotop, showing options and frequency as optional arguments.

```sh
mongotop [options] [frequency]
```

--------------------------------

### Check if Database Tools are installed (dpkg)

Source: https://www.mongodb.com/docs/database-tools/installation

Checks whether the MongoDB Database Tools are already installed on a Debian or Ubuntu system using the dpkg package manager.

```shell
sudo dpkg -l mongodb-database-tools
