### meson setup build/

Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/meson.html

Configures the source directory and creates the build directory. Meson only supports out-of-tree builds, so a build directory must be provided. If dependencies are missing, install them or remove the dependency with a Meson configuration option.

```bash
meson setup build/
```

--------------------------------

### Configure and install Mesa to temporary prefix

Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/install.html

Configure Mesa with a temporary prefix and install it, used for manual local build setup.

```bash
meson setup builddir/ -Dprefix="$MESA_INSTALLDIR" OTHER_OPTIONS
meson install -C builddir/
```

### Start QEMU with virtio-gpu-gl and Venus support

Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/drivers/venus.html

Command to launch QEMU with KVM, virtio-gpu-gl device with venus=true, and memfd memory backend. Adjust $IMG to your disk image path.

```bash
$ ./qemu-system-x86_64                                             \
      -enable-kvm                                                  \
      -M q35                                                       \
      -smp 8                                                       \
      -m 4G                                                        \
      -cpu host                                                    \
      -net nic,model=virtio                                        \
      -net user,hostfwd=tcp::2222-:22                              \
### Build QEMU with Venus and virglrenderer support
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/drivers/venus.html
Configure QEMU with the required options for Venus support, including --enable-virglrenderer, --enable-opengl, and --enable-gtk/sdl, then compile with make.
```bash
$ cd <QEMU source dir>
$ mkdir build && cd build
$ ../configure                                                     \
      --prefix=$HOME/.local                                        \
      --target-list=x86_64-softmmu                                 \
      --enable-kvm                                                 \
      --disable-werror                                             \
      --enable-opengl                                              \
      --enable-virglrenderer                                       \
      --enable-gtk                                                 \
      --enable-sdl
$ make -j$(nproc)

```
### Convert entrypoint tables to dispatch table and initialize instance
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/vulkan/dispatch.html
Typical pattern in a driver: create a vk_instance_dispatch_table, populate it from entrypoint tables (e.g., ANV and WSI), then call vk_instance_init(). The functions can be layered; the first definition of a duplicated entrypoint wins.
```c
struct vk_instance_dispatch_table dispatch_table;
vk_instance_dispatch_table_from_entrypoints(
   &dispatch_table, &anv_instance_entrypoints, true);
vk_instance_dispatch_table_from_entrypoints(
   &dispatch_table, &wsi_instance_entrypoints, false);

result = vk_instance_init(&instance->vk, &instance_extensions,
                          &dispatch_table, pCreateInfo, pAllocator);
if (result != VK_SUCCESS) {
   vk_free(pAllocator, instance);
   return result;
}

```
--------------------------------
### Start PPS producer
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/perfetto.html
Start the PPS producer to capture GPU performance counters. Requires sudo for system-wide access.
```bash
mesa $ sudo meson devenv -C build pps-producer

```
### Build Mesa with Teflon delegate
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/teflon.html
Build Mesa with the -Dteflon=true argument, ensuring at least one of etnaviv or rocket gallium drivers is enabled. The example shows installing dependencies, cloning the Mesa source, and configuring the build with meson.
```bash
# Install build dependencies
~ # apt-get -y build-dep mesa
~ # apt-get -y install git cmake

# Download sources
~ $ git clone https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa.git

# Build Mesa
~ $ cd mesa
mesa $ meson setup build -Dgallium-drivers=etnaviv,rocket -Dvulkan-drivers= -Dteflon=true
mesa $ meson compile -C build
```
--------------------------------
### Compile a vertex shader with glsl_compiler
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/glsl.html
Example of using the stand-alone GLSL compiler to compile a vertex shader. The --version flag is mandatory and defines the GLSL version. The --dump-ast flag dumps the source syntax tree. The compiler is installed as the binary 'glsl_compiler' after building Mesa with the -Dtools=glsl meson option.
```bash
src/compiler/glsl/glsl_compiler --version XXX --dump-ast myshader.vert
```
--------------------------------
### meson configure build/ -Dprefix=/tmp/install -Dglx=true
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/meson.html
Changes options for a previously configured build directory. All options are passed in the form `-D "option"="value"`. Options taking lists use commas to separate values and brackets for empty lists.
```bash
meson configure build/ -Dprefix=/tmp/install -Dglx=true

```
--------------------------------
### Install VMware Workstation bundle
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/drivers/svga3d.html
Runs the VMware Workstation bundle installer to install the package.
```bash
sudo ./VMware-Workstation-Full-17.6.3-24583834.x86_64.bundle

```
--------------------------------
### meson configure build/
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/meson.html
Reviews the build options that Meson chose for the configured build directory. Recent versions can also print available options and their default values by running `meson configure` in the source directory.
```bash
meson configure build/

```
--------------------------------
### Install Homebrew
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/drivers/kosmickrisp.html
Install Homebrew, the package manager used for dependencies. Terminal restart is recommended after installation.
```bash
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
```
--------------------------------
### List available components with bin/ci/update_tag.py --list
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/ci/structured-tagging.html
Lists the available components that can be tagged. Run from the repository root.
```bash
./bin/ci/update_tag.py --list

```
--------------------------------
### Install dependencies and build documentation with Sphinx
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/submittingpatches.html
Commands to set up a Python virtual environment, install Sphinx and related tools, and build the HTML documentation. On Debian, set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/lib/llvm-VERSION/lib so Sphinx can find libclang.so.
```bash
# Install dependencies (adapt for your distribution)
apk add coreutils graphviz clang-dev musl-dev linux-headers
python3 -m venv docs-build
./docs-build/bin/pip3 install sphinx===8.2.3 mako===1.2.3 hawkmoth===0.19.0 clang===$(llvm-config --version)

# Build docs (on Debian, set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/lib/llvm-VERSION/lib so it can find libclang.so)
./docs-build/bin/sphinx-build -W -b html docs docs-html/
```
### Commit message examples
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/submittingpatches.html
Examples of commit message first lines and full messages, including a detailed example with a Signed-off-by line.
```text
mesa: Add support for querying GL_VERTEX_ATTRIB_ARRAY_LONG

gallium: add pipe_caps.device_reset_status_query

i965: Fix missing type in local variable declaration.

```
```text
i965: Remove end-of-thread SEND alignment code.

This was present in Eric's initial implementation of the compaction code
for Sandybridge (commit 077d01b6). There is no documentation saying this
is necessary, and removing it causes no regressions in piglit on any
platform.

```
### Prepare offline compiler for nvk with mesa_clc
Source: https://docs.mesa3d.org/android.html
Sets up and installs the mesa_clc compiler binary needed for cross-compiling the nvk driver. The command configures a build directory with no platforms or drivers, enables mesa-clc, and installs it to /tmp/mesa-compiler. After installation, the PATH is updated to include the installed binaries.
```bash
meson setup build-compiler \
    -Dprefix=/tmp/mesa-compiler \
    -Dbuildtype=release \
    -Dstrip=true \
    -Dplatforms= \
    -Dgallium-drivers= \
    -Dvulkan-drivers= \
    -Dmesa-clc=enabled \
    -Dinstall-mesa-clc=true
meson install -C build-compiler
export PATH=/tmp/mesa-compiler/bin:$PATH
