Register the server via CLI, manual TOML configuration, or environment variable setup.

```bash
codex mcp add blender -- uvx blender-mcp
```

```toml
[mcp_servers.blender]
command = "uvx"
args = ["blender-mcp"]
```

```toml
args = ["blender-mcp"]
env = { BLENDER_HOST = "localhost", BLENDER_PORT = "9876" }
```

--------------------------------

### Combined asset generation and environment prompt

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/use-cases/asset-creation

Generate a custom asset and integrate it with library resources in one prompt. This example uses Hyper3D for the asset and Poly Haven for the floor and lighting.

```text
Generate a stylised treasure chest using Hyper3D, then place it on a wooden floor with warm studio lighting
```

--------------------------------

### Ensure pipx is on PATH

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

Run this command to add pipx's binary directory to your PATH. This is the second step in the pipx installation workflow.

```bash
pipx ensurepath
```

--------------------------------

### Set Hunyuan3D Official API credentials via environment variables

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/integrations/hunyuan3d

Configure the Tencent Cloud SecretId and SecretKey for Official API mode before starting Blender.

```bash
export BLENDERMCP_HUNYUAN3D_SECRET_ID="your-secret-id"
export BLENDERMCP_HUNYUAN3D_SECRET_KEY="your-secret-key"
```

--------------------------------

### MCP client config with environment variables

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

Example JSON configuration for an MCP client that sets BLENDER_HOST and BLENDER_PORT environment variables. The server and addon must agree on the same host and port.

```json
{
  "command": "uvx",
  "args": ["mcp-for-blender"],
  "env": {
    "BLENDER_HOST": "127.0.0.1",
    "BLENDER_PORT": "9876"
  }
}
```

--------------------------------

### Set Hunyuan3D Local API URL via environment variable

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/integrations/hunyuan3d

Configure the self-hosted Hunyuan3D API endpoint for Local API mode before starting Blender.

```bash
export BLENDERMCP_HUNYUAN3D_API_URL="http://localhost:8080"
```

--------------------------------

### Override addon install directory

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

Set the BLENDERMCP_ADDONS_DIR environment variable before running the install command to override the addon install location.

```bash
BLENDERMCP_ADDONS_DIR=/path/to/scripts/addons uvx mcp-for-blender install-addon
```

--------------------------------

### Clear uv cache and refresh

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

Run this command if the server fails to start after pinning Python. It clears the uv cache for mcp-for-blender and forces a refresh with uvx.

```bash
uv cache clean mcp-for-blender && uvx --refresh mcp-for-blender
```

--------------------------------

### Find pipx binary path

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

Run this command to get the full path to the mcp-for-blender executable. Use this path as the "command" in your MCP client config with no "args".

```bash
which mcp-for-blender
```

--------------------------------

### Image-to-3D prompt with attached image

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/use-cases/asset-creation

Use this prompt to generate a 3D asset from an attached image file. The AI interprets the image and produces a textured model matching the visual style.

```text
Generate a stylised potion bottle from the attached image
```

--------------------------------

### Configure Antigravity MCP Server

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/mcp-clients

Supports environment variables alongside the command configuration. Restart Antigravity after updating.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "blender": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["blender-mcp"],
      "env": {
        "BLENDER_HOST": "localhost",
        "BLENDER_PORT": "9876"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

--------------------------------

### Windows alternative: wrap uvx through cmd

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

If the full path approach does not work on Windows, wrap the call through `cmd` in the MCP client configuration. Set the command to `cmd` with arguments `/c`, `uvx`, and `mcp-for-blender`.

```json
{
  "command": "cmd",
  "args": ["/c", "uvx", "mcp-for-blender"]
}
```

--------------------------------

### Show detected addon paths

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

Run this command to see which addon directories MCP for Blender detected on your system.

```bash
uvx mcp-for-blender addon-paths
```

--------------------------------

### Configure OpenCode MCP Server

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/mcp-clients

Uses a local server type with a command array. Save the config and restart OpenCode to apply changes.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "blender": {
      "type": "local",
      "command": ["uvx", "blender-mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```

--------------------------------

### Find full path to uvx on macOS/Linux

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

Run `which uvx` to find the full path to uvx. This is needed because GUI clients do not inherit the terminal PATH.

```bash
which uvx
```

--------------------------------

### Find full path to uvx on Windows

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/installation

Run `where uvx` to find the full path to uvx on Windows. This is needed because GUI clients do not inherit the terminal PATH.

```powershell
where uvx
```

--------------------------------

### Image-to-3D prompt with reference URL

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/use-cases/asset-creation

Provide a remote URL to generate a 3D asset from a reference image. Claude sends the URL to Hyper3D or Hunyuan3D for generation.

```text
Create a futuristic helmet from this reference image: https://example.com/helmet.jpg
```

--------------------------------

### Add MCP server to Claude Desktop

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/quickstart

Add the MCP for Blender server to Claude Desktop's MCP configuration. The server runs via uvx with the mcp-for-blender package.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "blender": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["mcp-for-blender"]
    }
  }
}
```

--------------------------------

### Configure VS Code MCP Server

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/mcp-clients

Defines the blender server using stdio transport. Restart VS Code after saving the configuration.

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "blender": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["blender-mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```

--------------------------------

### Text-to-3D prompt for garden gnome

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/use-cases/asset-creation

Use this prompt to generate a 3D model of a garden gnome via Hyper3D. Claude sends the prompt to the Rodin API and imports the textured mesh into the active Blender scene.

```text
Generate a 3D model of a garden gnome
```

--------------------------------

### JSON Command Structure

Source: https://mcp-for-blender.com/concepts/how-it-works

The format for sending commands to the Blender addon, consisting of a type and parameters.

```json
{
  "type": "get_scene_info",
  "params": {}
}
```

--------------------------------
