### Gmail IMAP Configuration and Label Mapping

Source: https://context7.com/context7/manual_mailmate-app/llms.txt

This snippet explains how to handle Gmail's non-standard IMAP implementation by mapping Gmail labels to MailMate tags. It covers strategy, tag configuration, label types, and address pattern examples.

```bash
# Gmail label handling strategy:
# 1. Unsubscribe from [Gmail]/Starred and [Gmail]/Important
# 2. Keep [Gmail]/All Mail subscribed to avoid duplicates
# 3. Map Gmail labels to MailMate tags in Tags preferences
# Configure Gmail label as tag:
# Preferences ▸ Tags ▸ Gmail Label column
# Tag Name: "Priority"
# Gmail Label: "Priority"
# IMAP Keyword: \Priority
# Label types:
# - Folder label: moves message (default behavior)
# - Tag label: marks message without moving (configure in Tags pane)
# Example tag mapping:
# MailMate Tag    Gmail Label    Effect
# Important       Important      Syncs with Gmail Important
# Work            Work           Syncs with Gmail Work label
# $Flagged        Starred        Syncs with Gmail stars
# Address pattern for plus-addressing:
# username\+.*@gmail\.com
# Matches: username+lists@gmail.com, username+receipts@gmail.com
```

--------------------------------

# Finds: messages containing "invoice" from addresses with "vendor" to addresses with "accounting"

# urgent s !meeting t boss
# Finds: "urgent" in subject, NOT containing "meeting", to addresses with "boss"

# receipt f (amazon or ebay) d 30d
# Finds: "receipt" from Amazon or eBay in last 30 days
```
```bash
# Date search examples:
d 2024                  # year 2024
d 2024-03               # March 2024
d 2024-03-15            # specific date
d 15-3-2024             # day-month-year format
d <2024-03              # before March 2024
d >2024-03              # March 2024 onwards
d 7                     # day 7 of current/previous month
d 1y                    # this year
d 30d                   # last 30 days
d !7d                   # NOT last 7 days
d 5y !2y                # 2-5 years ago
d today                 # today

### Compose Emails with Mailto URI Scheme

Source: https://context7.com/context7/manual_mailmate-app/llms.txt

Compose emails using the 'mailto:' URI scheme. This allows pre-filling recipient, subject, body, and even attachments. For advanced features like attachments, AppleScript integration might be required. Ensure reserved characters in URLs are percent-encoded.

```bash
# Basic mailto: URL:
open "mailto:user@example.com?subject=Test&body=Hello%20World"
```

```applescript
# Extended mailto: with attachment (requires AppleScript):
osascript -e 'tell application "MailMate" to open location "mailto:user@example.com?subject=Report&body=See%20attachment&attachment-url=file:///Users/john/report.pdf&send-now=yes" with trust'
```

### Configure Message Muting in MailMate

Source: https://context7.com/context7/manual_mailmate-app/llms.txt

This section explains how to mute messages and threads in MailMate. Muted messages and their replies are automatically muted and marked read, moved to the parent mailbox. It utilizes an IMAP keyword `$Muted` for synchronization and offers exceptions for direct addressing.

```bash
# Mute message (Message ▸ Mute):
# Effects on future replies:
# 1. Automatically muted and marked read
# 2. Moved to same mailbox as muted parent
# Smart mailbox for muted threads:
# Name: "Muted Conversations"
# Conditions: #flags.flag ▸ is ▸ $Muted
# Exception: direct addressing
# If reply addresses you directly (To/Cc), muting is disabled
# IMAP keyword used: $Muted
# Synced across MailMate installations via IMAP
# Unmute: select message ▸ Message ▸ Unmute
# Use case: high-traffic mailing lists
# 1. Read thread start
# 2. Decide thread not relevant
# 3. Mute to auto-handle future replies
# 4. Reduces inbox clutter from active threads
```
