### Example B: Creating an XML Schema Collection

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/xquery/type-casting-rules-in-xquery

This example creates an XML schema collection to provide typing information for subsequent XML variables.

```sql
create xml schema collection myCollection as N'
<xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
      <xs:element name="root">
            <xs:complexType>
                  <xs:sequence>
                        <xs:element name="A" type="xs:string"/>
                        <xs:element name="B" type="xs:string"/>
                        <xs:element name="C" type="xs:string"/>
                  </xs:sequence>
            </xs:complexType>
      </xs:element>
</xs:schema>'
go
```

### Example: Using substring() to retrieve partial product model descriptions

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/xquery/functions-on-string-values-substring

This XQuery example retrieves the first 50 characters of the Summary element from product model descriptions in the AdventureWorks2025 database. It uses the string() function to get the text content and substring() to extract the first 50 characters.

```sql
WITH XMLNAMESPACES ('https://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/07/adventure-works/ProductModelDescription' AS pd)
SELECT ProductModelID, CatalogDescription.query('
    <Prod>{ substring(string((/pd:ProductDescription/pd:Summary)[1]), 1, 50) }</Prod>
 ') as Result
FROM Production.ProductModel
where CatalogDescription.exist('/pd:ProductDescription')  = 1;
```

### Check installed .NET SDKs with dotnet --list-sdks

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/tools/visual-studio-code-extensions/sql-database-projects/sql-database-projects-extension

Use this command in a terminal to check the currently installed .NET SDK versions. The extension requires the .NET SDK for project build functionality; if the installed version is unsupported, the build may fail with errors like 'error MSB4018: The "SqlBuildTask" task failed unexpectedly.'

```dotnet-cli
dotnet --list-sdks
```

### Prepare SQL Server image with setup.exe

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/install-windows/install-sql-server-from-the-command-prompt

Use this command to prepare a new stand-alone instance with the SQL Server Database Engine, Replication, and Full-Text Search components, and Reporting Services. The /q parameter runs Setup in quiet mode, and /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS is required for unattended installations.

```console
setup.exe /q /ACTION=PrepareImage /FEATURES=SQL,RS /InstanceID =<MYINST> /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS
```

--------------------------------

### Install SQL Server via Command Line

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/install-windows/install-sql-server-on-server-core

Example of a command-line installation using the /QS parameter for Quiet Simple mode, specifying features, instance name, service accounts, and license acceptance.

```Console
setup.exe /qs /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQLEngine,Replication /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /SQLSVCACCOUNT="<DomainName\UserName>" /SQLSVCPASSWORD="<password>" /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="<DomainName\UserName>" /AGTSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\Network Service" /TCPENABLED=1 /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS
```

### Get bind token in a distributed transaction

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/system-stored-procedures/sp-getbindtoken-transact-sql

Shows that sp_getbindtoken returns the same token when used inside a distributed transaction. The example starts a regular transaction, gets a token, then starts a distributed transaction and gets another token; both SELECT statements return the same token.

```sql
USE AdventureWorks2022;
GO
DECLARE @bind_token AS VARCHAR (255);
BEGIN TRANSACTION;
EXECUTE sp_getbindtoken @bind_token OUTPUT;
SELECT @bind_token AS Token1;
BEGIN DISTRIBUTED TRANSACTION;
EXECUTE sp_getbindtoken @bind_token OUTPUT;
SELECT @bind_token AS Token2;
--COMMIT TRANSACTION;
--COMMIT TRANSACTION;
```

```output
Token1
------
PKb'gN5<9aGEedk_16>8U=5---/5G=--
Token2
------
PKb'gN5<9aGEedk_16>8U=5---/5G=--
```

### Create a TEMPLATE Plan Guide

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/performance/create-a-plan-guide-for-parameterized-queries

This example demonstrates creating a plan guide that forces parameterization for the specified query form.

```sql
EXEC sp_create_plan_guide
    @name = N'TemplateGuide1',
    @stmt = N'SELECT * FROM AdventureWorks2022.Sales.SalesOrderHeader AS h
              INNER JOIN AdventureWorks2022.Sales.SalesOrderDetail AS d
                  ON h.SalesOrderID = d.SalesOrderID
              WHERE h.SalesOrderID = @0',
    @type = N'TEMPLATE',
    @module_or_batch = NULL,
    @params = N'@0 int',
    @hints = N'OPTION(PARAMETERIZATION FORCED)';
```

--------------------------------

### Example: Retrieve start point of a LineString

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t-sql/spatial-geometry/ststartpoint-geometry-data-type

Creates a LineString geometry instance using STGeomFromText and calls STStartPoint() to get its start point, then outputs the result as text.

```SQL
DECLARE @g geometry;
SET @g = geometry::STGeomFromText('LINESTRING(0 0, 2 2, 1 0)', 0);
SELECT @g.STStartPoint().ToString();
```

--------------------------------

### Prepare SQL Server image with Setup.exe /ACTION=PrepareImage

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/install-windows/install-sql-server-using-sysprep

Use this command to prepare the SQL Server image before running Windows SysPrep Generalization. The /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS flag is required to accept the license terms. Replace <MYINST> with the actual instance ID.

```console
Setup.exe /q /ACTION=PrepareImage l /FEATURES=SQLEngine /InstanceID =<MYINST> /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS
```

### Example: Get rows affected by an UPDATE statement

Source: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/php/sqlsrv-rows-affected

Example that connects to the local SQL Server using Windows Authentication, runs an UPDATE statement with parameters, and uses sqlsrv_rows_affected to display the number of rows modified. Assumes SQL Server and the AdventureWorks database are installed locally.

```PHP
<?php
/* Connect to the local server using Windows Authentication and
specify the AdventureWorks database as the database in use. */
$serverName = "(local)";
$connectionInfo = array( "Database"=>"AdventureWorks");
$conn = sqlsrv_connect( $serverName, $connectionInfo);
if( $conn === false )
{
     echo "Could not connect.\n";
     die( print_r( sqlsrv_errors(), true));
}
/* Set up Transact-SQL query. */
$tsql = "UPDATE Sales.SalesOrderDetail
         SET SpecialOfferID = ?
         WHERE ProductID = ?";
/* Set parameter values. */
$params = array(2, 709);
/* Execute the statement. */
$stmt = sqlsrv_query( $conn, $tsql, $params);
/* Get the number of rows affected and display appropriate message.*/
$rows_affected = sqlsrv_rows_affected( $stmt);
if( $rows_affected === false)
{
     echo "Error in calling sqlsrv_rows_affected.\n";
     die( print_r( sqlsrv_errors(), true));
}
elseif( $rows_affected == -1)
{
      echo "No information available.\n";
}
else
{
      echo $rows_affected." rows were updated.\n";
}
/* Free statement and connection resources. */
sqlsrv_free_stmt( $stmt);
sqlsrv_close( $conn);
?>
```
