### Mainline code for external command Execute

Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0223_install_location.htm

Gets the current application's product code and install location, then loops through all ProductType values to check for other installed flavours. Displays the results in a message box and returns CmdResult.Failed.

```csharp
Application app = commandData.Application;
string reg_path_product
  = RegPathForFlavour( app.Product );
string product_code
  = GetRevitProductCode( reg_path_product );
string install_location
  = GetRevitInstallLocation( product_code );
string msg = FormatData(
  "Running application",
  app.VersionName,
  product_code,
  install_location );
foreach( ProductType p in
  Enum.GetValues( typeof( ProductType ) ) )
{
  try
  {
    reg_path_product = RegPathForFlavour( p );
    product_code = GetRevitProductCode(
      reg_path_product );
    install_location = GetRevitInstallLocation(
      product_code );
    msg += FormatData(
      "\n\nInstalled product",
      p.ToString(),
      product_code,
      install_location );
  }
  catch( Exception ex )
  {
  }
}
Util.InfoMsg( msg );
return CmdResult.Failed;
### C#: Open a Revit file via GUI using FindWindowEx (partial)
Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0507_ribbon_spy_automate.htm
This snippet is a partial example showing the beginning of a method that opens a Revit file via the GUI. It starts by getting the Revit 'R' button handle using FindWindowEx, which is imported via P/Invoke. The code is incomplete in the source, so only the provided lines are included.
```csharp
private void OpenRevitFile( string filePath )
{
  // get the Revit 'R' button in the upper left corner
  // FindWindowEx has been imported via P/Invoke

  IntPtr startButtonHandle = FindWindowEx(

### Get analytical curve start point reference using AnalyticalModelSelector

Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0633_analytical_reference.htm

Use this C# code to obtain a stable geometric reference to the start point of a structural column's analytical curve. It retrieves the AnalyticalModel from the FamilyInstance, gets its curve, and uses AnalyticalModelSelector with AnalyticalCurveSelector.StartPoint to get the reference. This is needed in Revit 2012 because analytical model curves are no longer available from the Element's Geometry property.

```csharp
  AnalyticalModel analyticalModel = fiColumn
    .GetAnalyticalModel() as AnalyticalModel;
  Reference startReference = null;
  if( null != analyticalModel )
  {
    Curve curveCol = analyticalModel.GetCurve();
    if( null != curveCol )
    {
      AnalyticalModelSelector amSelector
        = new AnalyticalModelSelector( curveCol );
      amSelector.CurveSelector
        = AnalyticalCurveSelector.StartPoint;
      startReference = analyticalModel
        .GetReference( amSelector );
    }
  }
### Find extensible storage schema and get Guid field
Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/1057_db_explor_python_sh.htm
Iterates over all extensible storage schemas to find one named 'CatalogFamilyInfoEntity', then retrieves the 'FamilyId' field of Guid type from the doc.OwnerFamily entity. Requires importing System.Guid for Guid operations.
```python
from Autodesk.Revit.DB.ExtensibleStorage import *
from System import Guid # you need to import this, when you work with Guids!
for sch in Schema.ListSchemas():
  if sch.SchemaName == "CatalogFamilyInfoEntity": # looking for the schema
    schema = sch
print schema.SchemaName
entity = doc.OwnerFamily.GetEntity(schema)
print entity.IsValid()
print entity.Get[Guid]("FamilyId") # generic method public FieldType Get FieldType (string fieldName)
```
### Sample output from CmdLinkedFiles
Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0060_linked_files.htm
Example output from running the command, showing the count of linked models and the full paths for each link.
```text
There are 2 linked Revit models.
Link 'roof.rvt' full path is 'C:\tmp\roof.rvt'.
Link 'two_rooms.rvt' full path is 'C:\tmp\two_rooms.rvt'.
```
### Sample output: sheets and views
Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/1125_select_sheets.htm
Example output from running the command with three sheets selected. It lists the selected sheets and the views they contain, including the count of floor plans.
```text
  3 Sheets Selected: Sheet view of Level 0 and 1,
  3D, Level 0 Duplicate.

  They contain 4 views including 3 floor plans:
  Level 0, Level 1, {3D}, Dependent on Level 0.

### Get Starting View using StartingViewSettings

Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/1578_fam_filt_forge_aec.html

Uses FilteredElementCollector to find StartingViewSettings and retrieves the starting view via ViewId. Iterates over all settings and assigns the last one found.

```csharp
  FilteredElementCollector a
    = new FilteredElementCollector( doc )
      .OfClass( typeof( StartingViewSettings ) );
  View startingView = null;
  foreach( StartingViewSettings settings in a )
  {
    startingView = doc.GetElement(
      settings.ViewId ) as View;
  }
### Retrieve Beam Location Line Start and End Points
Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0845_beam_bottom_pts.htm
Uses LocationCurve to get the beam's location curve and its start and end points. This is the initial approach mentioned in the question.
```csharp
  LocationCurve location = beam.Location as LocationCurve;
  Curve c = location.Curve;
  XYZ p = c.get_EndPoint( 0 );
  XYZ q = c.get_EndPoint( 1 );

### Create ceiling plan and 3D view with ViewPlan.Create and View3D.CreateIsometric

Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0904_whats_new_2013.htm

Shows how to create a ceiling plan using ViewPlan.Create and a 3D isometric view using View3D.CreateIsometric. The example selects a level, filters for ViewFamilyType of CeilingPlan, creates the plan, sets its name and detail level, then creates a 3D view and sets its orientation using ViewOrientation3D.

```csharp
  Element level = doc.GetElement(
    uidoc.Selection.PickObject(
      ObjectType.Element ) ) as Level;
  IEnumerable<ViewFamilyType> viewFamilyTypes
    = from elem in new FilteredElementCollector( doc )
      .OfClass( typeof( ViewFamilyType ) )
        let type = elem as ViewFamilyType
        where type.ViewFamily == ViewFamily.CeilingPlan
        select type;
  ViewPlan ceilingPlan = ViewPlan.Create(
    doc, viewFamilyTypes.First().Id, level.Id );
  ceilingPlan.Name = "New Ceiling Plan for "
    + level.Name;
  ceilingPlan.DetailLevel = ViewDetailLevel.Fine;
  // 3D views can be created with
  // View3D.CreateIsometric and
  // View3D.CreatePerspective.
  // The new ViewOrientation3D object is used to
  // get or set the orientation of 3D views.
  View3D view = View3D.CreateIsometric(
    doc, viewFamily3d );
  XYZ eyePosition = new XYZ( 10, 10, 10 );
  XYZ upDirection = new XYZ( -1, 0, 1 );
  XYZ forwardDirection = new XYZ( 1, 0, 1 );
  view.SetOrientation( new ViewOrientation3D(
    eyePosition, upDirection, forwardDirection ) );
```

### Get Revit product code and install location

Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0223_install_location.htm

Two functions that use the generic GetSubkeyValue method to retrieve the product code from the Components subkey and the install location from the uninstall key.

```csharp
string GetRevitProductCode( string reg_path_product )
{
  return GetSubkeyValue( reg_path_product,
    "Components", "ProductCode" );
}
string GetRevitInstallLocation( string product_code )
{
  return GetSubkeyValue( _reg_path_uninstall,
    product_code, "InstallLocation" );
}
```

### Execute method for extensible storage sample

Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0587_extensible_storage_map.htm

Main entry point of the external command. It prompts the user to pick a wall face, stores the picked point in extensible storage, and lists all schemas.

```csharp
public Result Execute(
  ExternalCommandData commandData,
  ref string message,
  ElementSet elements )
{
  UIApplication uiapp = commandData.Application;
  UIDocument uidoc = uiapp.ActiveUIDocument;
  Document doc = uidoc.Document;
  try
  {
    // pick an element and define the XYZ
    // data to store at the same time
    Reference r = uidoc.Selection.PickObject(
      ObjectType.Face,
      new WallFilter(),
      "Please pick a wall at a point on one of its faces" );
    Wall wall = doc.get_Element( r.ElementId ) as Wall;
    XYZ dataToStore = r.GlobalPoint;
    Transaction t = new Transaction( doc,
      "Create Extensible Storage Schemata and Store Data" );
    t.Start();
    // store the data, and also
    // demonstrate reading it back
    StoreDataInWall( wall, dataToStore );
    t.Commit();
    // list all schemas in memory across all documents
    ListSchemas();
    return Result.Succeeded;
  }
  catch( Exception ex )
  {
    message = ex.Message;
    return Result.Failed;
  }
}
### Create Room in Phase and Find Plan Circuit (Attempt 2)
Source: https://jeremytammik.github.io/tbc/a/0107_room_on_level_in_phase.htm
Creates a room in a specific phase using NewRoom(Phase), then iterates through all plan circuits to find one that contains the desired UV point. If the circuit has no room, it creates the room and tests its bounding box; if not contained, deletes the room and tries the next circuit.
```csharp
// create the room in the phase:

Room roomNueva = doc.Create.NewRoom( phase );

// search for the plan circuit which
// locates the room at the given UV coordinates:

XYZ xyz = new XYZ( uv.U, uv.V, level.Elevation );
PlanTopology pt = doc.get_PlanTopology( level, phase );
foreach( PlanCircuit pc in pt.Circuits )
{
  if( !pc.IsRoomLocated )
  {
    Room room = doc.Create.NewRoom( roomNueva, pc );

    // test if the bounding box contains our point:

    if( Geometry.BoundingBoxXYZContains(
      roomNueva.get_BoundingBox( null ),
      xyz ) )
    {
      break;
    }
    else // if not, delete the room:
    {
      doc.Delete( room );
      room = null;
    }
  }
}
