### Create Running Stitch Embroidery in Ink/Stitch (Python)

Source: https://context7.com/context7/inkstitch/llms.txt

This guide details how to create a running stitch from a path in Inkscape using Ink/Stitch. It covers setting custom running stitch parameters, including stitch length and tolerance, and explains how to achieve a reinforced 'bean stitch' by adjusting repeats. Reversing path direction is also addressed.

```python
# Create a curved path using Bezier tool (B)
# Add stroke color (no fill)
# Open Params dialog
# Extensions > Ink/Stitch > Params
# Configure running stitch:
# - Running stitch along paths: ☑ Enabled
# - Method: Running stitch / Bean stitch
# - Repeats: 1 (one pass from start to end)
# - Running stitch length: 2.0 mm
# - Running stitch tolerance: 0.1 mm
# For bean stitch (reinforced stitch):
# - Bean stitch number of repeats: 1
# Result: Each stitch goes forward, back, forward (triple stitch)
# Reverse path direction if needed:
# Path > Reverse
# Expected output:
# - Series of stitches following the path
# - Even stitch length of 2.0mm
# - Tolerance keeps stitches within 0.1mm of path
```

```python
# Check stitch density
# Select objects or select nothing (all objects)
Extensions > Ink/Stitch > Visualize and Export > Density Map
# Options:
# - Red markers: "10 stitches within 2mm radius"
# - Yellow markers: "7 stitches within 2mm radius"
# - Design layer visibility: "lower opacity"
# - Indicator size: 1.0 mm
# Click Apply
# Zoom in to inspect problem areas
# Undo when done:
# Ctrl+Z
# Expected output:
# - Red dots: High density (potential thread breaks)
# - Yellow dots: Medium-high density (monitor)
# - Green dots: Optimal density
# - No dots: Low density areas
# Adjust parameters if too many red markers:
# - Increase row spacing in fills
# - Increase zig-zag spacing in satins
# - Reduce stagger count
```

# - Zig-Zag spacing: 0.4 mm (peak-to-peak distance)
# - Pull compensation: 0.2 mm (expand to compensate for pull)
# - Maximum stitch length: 12 mm (splits longer stitches)

# Add Center-Walk Underlay:
# - Stitch length: 1.5 mm
# - Position: 50% (centered)
# - Repeats: 1

# Add Contour Underlay:
# - Stitch length: 1.5 mm
# - Inset distance (fixed): 0.4 mm

# Step 4: Auto-route for optimal path
# Select all satin columns
# Extensions > Ink/Stitch > Tools: Satin > Auto-Route Satin Columns...
# - Trim jump stitches: ☑ Enabled
# - Preserve order: ☐ Disabled
# Click Apply

# Expected output:

# - Shape should be relatively narrow (suitable for satin width)

# Step 2: Create rungs across fill
# - Draw lines with stroke color (no fill)
# - Rungs define satin direction and structure
# - Add sufficient rungs (especially for "start/end at rung" option)
# - Rungs must completely cross the fill

# Step 3: Select fill and all rungs
# Shift+Click to select multiple objects

# Step 4: Convert to satin
# Extensions > Ink/Stitch > Tools: Satin > Fill to Satin...

# Options:
# - Start/end at rung: ☑ Enabled (trim open ends)

### AutoFill Complex Shapes with InkStitch

Source: https://context7.com/context7/inkstitch/llms.txt

Generates auto-routed fill stitches for complex shapes with advanced parameters for density, underlay, and stitch quality. This method is suitable for shapes with holes and intricate geometry.

```python
# Configure AutoFill parameters
# Extensions > Ink/Stitch > Params
# AutoFill settings:
# - Automatically routed fill stitching: ☑ Enabled
# - Fill method: AutoFill
# - Angle of lines of stitches: 45 degrees
# - Maximum fill stitch length: 3.5 mm
# - Spacing between rows: 0.4 mm
# - Stagger rows this many times: 4.0 (reduces valley effect)
# - Pull compensation: 0.1 mm (expand rows from center)
# - Skip last stitch in each row: ☑ Enabled (reduces density)
# Underlay settings:
# - Underlay: ☑ Enabled
# - Fill angle: 135 (90 degrees offset from top layer)
# - Inset: 0.5 mm (keeps underlay inside shape)
# - Max stitch length: 4.0 mm
# - Row spacing: 1.2 mm (3x top layer spacing)
# Multiple underlay example:
# - Fill angle: "45 135" (space-separated for two underlay layers)
# Expected output:
# - Automatic sectioning of complex shapes
# - Underlay at 135 degrees with 1.2mm spacing
# - Top stitches at 45 degrees with 0.4mm spacing
# - Staggered stitches prevent visible columns
# - Automatic routing between sections with underpaths
