### Start and Check MongoDB Server Status (Shell)

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cobol-linux-x86/1.2_topic=files-using-mongodb

Provides commands to start the MongoDB server using systemd and check its operational status. It also shows how to manually start the server if the systemctl command fails, ensuring the database is accessible for COBOL applications. Includes example output of a running server.

```shell
sudo systemctl start mongod
```

```shell
sudo systemctl status mongod
```

```shell
/usr/bin/mongod -f /etc/mongod.conf
```

### Install Prerequisite Packages on Ubuntu

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cobol-linux-x86/1.2_topic=installation-running-alternative-utility

Installs necessary software packages for COBOL development on Ubuntu using the Advanced Package Tool (apt). This ensures all dependencies are met before proceeding with the COBOL installation.

```bash
sudo apt-get install gcc-multilib gcc ibc6-dev libgcc1 libstdc++6 libc6:i386 libc6-dev:i386 libgcc1:i386 libstdc++6:i386
```

### Compile and Run COBOL Preinitialization Example

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cobol-linux-x86/1.2_topic=environment-example-preinitializing-cobol

Commands to compile the C and COBOL source files and then execute the resulting program. Assumes the 'xlc' and 'cob2' compilers are available in the PATH.

```shell
xlc -c testinit.c
cob2 testinit.o xio.cbl
a.out
```

--------------------------------

### Compiling with ADDR Option using cob2

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cobol-linux-x86/1.1_topic=options-addr

Demonstrates how to specify the ADDR option using the `-q` flag with the `cob2` command. This allows for abbreviated options like `64` for `ADDR(64)`. The example shows compiling a program named `prog64.cbl` with the 64-bit setting enabled.

```bash
cob2 -q64 prog64.cbl
```

### Query dpkg Package Summary (Ubuntu)

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cobol-linux-x86/1.1_topic=installation-querying-package-summaries

This command queries for the summary of a dpkg package. It takes the full package file name as input and outputs detailed package information, including its name, version, dependencies, and description. This is useful for understanding package contents before installation.

```shell
dpkg -f pkg_file_name
```

```shell
dpkg -f cobol.cmp.1.1.0-1.1.0.0-$B_x86_64.deb
```

### C Program for COBOL Environment Preinitialization

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cobol-linux-x86/1.2_topic=environment-example-preinitializing-cobol

The C program 'testinit.c' that initializes the COBOL environment using '_iwzCOBOLInit', calls the COBOL program 'XIO' multiple times, and then terminates the environment using '_iwzCOBOLTerm'. It includes error handling and file I/O operations.

```c
#ifdef _Linux
typedef int (*PFN)();
#define LINKAGE
#else
#include <windows.h>
#define LINKAGE _System
#endif
#include   <stdio.h>
#include   <setjmp.h>
extern void _iwzCOBOLInit(int fcode, PFN StopFun, int *err_code, void *StopArg);
extern void _iwzCOBOLTerm(int fcode, int *err_code);
extern void LINKAGE XIO(long *k);
jmp_buf Jmpbuf;
long StopArg = 0;
int LINKAGE
StopFun(long *stoparg)
{
        printf("inside StopFun\n");
        *stoparg = 123;
        longjmp(Jmpbuf,1);
}
main()
{
        int rc;
        long k;
        FILE *s;
        int c;
        if (setjmp(Jmpbuf) ==0) {
                _iwzCOBOLInit(1, StopFun, &rc, &StopArg);
                printf( "_iwzCOBOLinit got %d\n",rc);
                for (k=0; k <= 4; k++) XIO(&k);
                k = 99; XIO(&k);
        }
        else printf("return after STOP RUN\n");
        printf("StopArg=%d\n", StopArg);
        _iwzCOBOLTerm(1, &rc);
        printf("_iwzCOBOLTerm expects rc=0 and got rc=%d\n",rc);
        printf("FILE1 contains ---- \n");
        s = fopen("FILE1", "r");
        if (s) {
                while (  (c = fgetc(s) ) != EOF ) putchar(c);
        }
        printf("---- end of FILE1\n");
}
```

### Create Db2 Table and Indexes

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cobol-linux-x86/1.2_topic=files-using-db2

This sequence of Db2 commands creates a table named `example` under the `CICS` schema with two columns: `rba` (a fixed-length character field) and `f1` (a variable-length character field). It also creates unique indexes on the `rba` column.

```sql
db2 create table cics.example\
"(rba char(4) not null for bit data, f1 varchar(80) not null for bit data)"
db2 create unique index cics.example0 on cics.example\
"(rba) disallow reverse scans"
db2 create unique index cics.example0@ on cics.example\
"(rba desc) disallow reverse scans"
```
