### Start ATAM Management of Device Addresses

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=command-s-example-3

This command instructs the ATAM started task to begin managing a specified range of device addresses on all defined systems. It takes the device address range and the system scope as input.

```JCL
F ATHPROC,S=280-283,N=*
```

--------------------------------

### Example Output of Pending Tape Mount Requests

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=command-m-example-2

This is an example of the output generated by the 'F ATHPROC,M,N=*' command. Each line details a specific tape mount request, indicating the system, device type and number, job name, and how long the request has been pending.

```z/OS Console Output
ATH065I SYSA 3500 701088 HSM      00:05
ATH065I RMT1 3512 PRIVAT PDAA2430 00:42
ATH065I RMT1 3516 PRIVAT PDAA5075 00:07
ATH065I SYSA 3565 700345 HSM      00:05
ATH065I RMT2 3570 123456 PRQA1200 00:10
ATH065I RMT2 3572 234567 PYEA0000 00:22
```

--------------------------------

### Example: List Tape Device Status

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=documentation-using-console-operator-commands

This example demonstrates how to use the 'L' command to list the status of tape devices known to ATAM. The command specifies the ATAM started task and the 'L' command to query device status.

```z/OS Console
F ATHPROC,L
```

--------------------------------

### SORT Command Examples

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=option-sort

Illustrates how to use the SORT command with specific keywords and order specifiers. Includes examples for default ascending sort and explicit descending sort.

```shell
SORT UNIT
```

```shell
SORT UNIT D
```

--------------------------------

### Instruct ATAM to Manage All Tape Devices (JCL)

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=command-s-example-4

This JCL command instructs ATAM to manage all tape devices that were discovered when ATAM started. It requires no specific input parameters but will display status messages indicating the command's acceptance and success.

```JCL
F ATHPROC,S=ALL
```

--------------------------------

### Example: Setting SBI for Devices 05C0-05C7 (JCL)

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=command-b-parameter

This example demonstrates setting a Scan Bypass Iteration value of 5 for tape devices 05C0 through 05C7. It includes the expected ATAM system messages confirming the command acceptance and successful assignment of the SBI value.

```JCL
F ATAM,S=05C0-05C7,B=5
```

--------------------------------

### Example: Enable ATAM PD Tier Preferencing

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=commands-pd-command

Illustrates enabling tier-based device preferencing with the PD command and the 'T' parameter. The system output verifies that device preference is enabled for tier values.

```shell
F ATAM,PD=T
```

```text
ATH106I COMMAND ACCEPTED
ATH222I DEVICE PREFERENCE ENABLED FOR TIER VALUES
ATH107I COMMAND SUCCESSFUL
```

--------------------------------

### Start ATAM Started Task

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=manager-starting-stopping-atam

This snippet shows the MVS Start command used to initiate the ATAM started task. It assumes the default procedure name 'ATHPROC'.

```JCL
S ATHPROC
```

--------------------------------

### Display Pending Tape Mount Requests (z/OS Console)

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=command-m-example-2

This command is used on a z/OS system to display pending tape mount requests. It requires access to the system console and the ATHPROC procedure. The output shows details for each pending request, including system, device, job name, and wait time.

```z/OS Console
F ATHPROC,M,N=*
```

--------------------------------

### Stop ATAM Started Task

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=manager-starting-stopping-atam

This snippet demonstrates the MVS Stop command to terminate the ATAM started task. It assumes the default procedure name 'ATHPROC' and advises against using the FORCE command.

```JCL
P ATHPROC
```

--------------------------------

### Example: Enable ATAM PD Location Preferencing

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=commands-pd-command

Shows how to enable location-based device preferencing using the PD command with the 'L' parameter. The system response confirms the enablement for location-based processing.

```shell
F ATAM,PD=L
```

```text
ATH106I COMMAND ACCEPTED
ATH222I DEVICE PREFERENCE ENABLED FOR LOCATION
ATH107I COMMAND SUCCESSFUL
```

--------------------------------

### ATHIDTBL Sample Content and Syntax

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=manager-step-3-creating-alternate-system-names-optional

This snippet shows the sample content of the ATHIDTBL member and explains the syntax for defining system name to member name mappings. It's used to override default member naming conventions for ATAM configuration.

```text
ATAM_ALTSYSNAME_MEMBER
KEYWORD=SYSID(MEMBER)
```

```text
SYSNAME=1A2B(SYS1A2B)
```

--------------------------------

### ATAM Initiation Messages with Alternate Configuration

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=manager-step-3-creating-alternate-system-names-optional

These are example system messages displayed during ATAM initiation when an alternate configuration member is being used, as defined in the ATHIDTBL. They indicate the detection of the alternate table and the specific configuration member being utilized.

```text
ATH401I ALTERNATE SYSNAME TABLE DETECTED
```

```text
ATH202I SYSTEM CONFIGURATION FOR HOST 1A2B USING ALTERNATE CONFIGURATION MEMBER
  SYS1A2B
```

```text
ATH300I TCPIP CONFIGURATION INITIATING FOR LOCAL HOST 1A2B
```

```text
ATH303I TCPIP CONFIGURATION FOR LOCAL HOST 1A2B USING ALTERNATE CONFIGURATION
  MEMBER SYS1A2B
```

```text
ATH302I TCPIP CONFIGURATION COMPLETE FOR HOST 1A2B
```

Source: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/auto-tape-alloc-mgr/3.3_topic=file-modifying-sample-jcl-in-athlogf-member

This example illustrates how to modify the DSN (Data Set Name) parameter in the JCL. It shows how to set the high-level qualifier according to site naming standards, using 'ATH.V3R3' as an example.

```z/OS JCL
DSN=ATH.V3R3.LOGFILE
```
