### Prepare External Drive: Format using Disk Utility

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/7199067-how-do-i-store-rewind-data-on-an-external-storage-device

This section details how to format an external storage device to 'Mac OS Extended' or 'APFS' using Disk Utility. It involves selecting the drive, clicking 'Erase', choosing the appropriate format (preferably 'APFS (Encrypted)'), and confirming the erase operation.

```shell
open "/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app"
# Then select the external drive, click 'Erase', choose format 'APFS (Encrypted)' or 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)', and click 'Erase'.
```

### Open Rewind AI Data Directory in Terminal

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/7183164-where-can-i-find-my-data

This command opens the directory where Rewind AI data is stored locally. It requires the Terminal application to be available on your system. The output is the directory itself, ready for file exploration.

```shell
open ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.memoryvault.MemoryVault
```

--------------------------------

### Copy Rewind Data to External Drive using Terminal

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/7199067-how-do-i-store-rewind-data-on-an-external-storage-device

This process involves navigating to the Rewind application support directory in the Terminal and then copying the Rewind data to a mounted external drive named 'Rewind-Data'. It warns that this operation can take a significant amount of time.

```shell
cd "$HOME/Library/Application Support/"
cp -r com.memoryvault.MemoryVault/* /Volumes/Rewind-Data
```

--------------------------------

### Configure Rewind to Use External Drive Data Path

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/7199067-how-do-i-store-rewind-data-on-an-external-storage-device

This command sets the application data path for Rewind to point to the external storage device. This allows Rewind to read and write data from the specified external volume, ensuring continuity after data migration.

```shell
defaults write com.memoryvault.MemoryVault appDataPath -string /Volumes/Rewind-Data
```

--------------------------------

### Navigate to Rewind App Support Directory (macOS Terminal)

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/7260918-what-if-i-don-t-want-to-use-external-storage-anymore-and-want-to-store-my-data-locally

This command changes the current directory in the Terminal to the Application Support folder for the Rewind application. This is a prerequisite for managing Rewind's data files. This is a macOS specific command.

```shell
cd "${HOME}/Library/Application Support"
```

--------------------------------

### Remove Rewind Launch Agent using Terminal

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/6953452-how-do-i-uninstall-rewind

This command removes the Rewind launch agent plist file from the user's Library directory. Ensure Rewind is not running before executing this command. This is an optional step for a complete uninstall.

```shell
rm ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.rewind.Rewind.plist
```

--------------------------------

### Delete Rewind Configuration (macOS Terminal)

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/7260918-what-if-i-don-t-want-to-use-external-storage-anymore-and-want-to-store-my-data-locally

This command removes the Rewind application's configuration for its data path, effectively resetting it to default. It requires the Rewind application to be quit before execution. This is a macOS specific command.

```shell
defaults delete com.memoryvault.MemoryVault appDataPath
```

--------------------------------

### Copy External Rewind Data to Local (macOS Terminal)

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/7260918-what-if-i-don-t-want-to-use-external-storage-anymore-and-want-to-store-my-data-locally

This command copies the data from a specified external volume named 'Rewind-Data' to the local Rewind application data directory. It assumes the external drive is mounted and named correctly. The operation may show 'Operation not permitted' messages which can be ignored. This is a macOS specific command.

```shell
cp -r /Volumes/Rewind-Data com.memoryvault.MemoryVault
```

--------------------------------

### Remove Existing Rewind Data (macOS Terminal)

Source: https://help.rewind.ai/en/articles/7260918-what-if-i-don-t-want-to-use-external-storage-anymore-and-want-to-store-my-data-locally

This command recursively removes the Rewind application's data directory if it exists. This ensures a clean slate before copying data back from external storage. Use with caution as it deletes data. This is a macOS specific command.

```shell
rm -rf com.memoryvault.MemoryVault
```
