### queue:work - Consume jobs from a queue

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/commands.md

Consumes jobs from a specific queue. The example listens for 5 jobs from the 'emails' queue and then stops.

```bash
php spark queue:work emails -max-jobs 5
```

--------------------------------

### Run the queue worker with `php spark queue:work`

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/index.md

Starts listening for queued jobs on the specified queue. Run this command to process jobs in the background.

```bash
php spark queue:work queueName
```

--------------------------------

### Install CodeIgniter Queue via Composer

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/README.md

Install the queue package with Composer. Requires PHP ^8.2 and CodeIgniter ^4.3.

```bash
composer require codeigniter4/queue
```

--------------------------------

### Push an email job to the emails queue

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/basic-usage.md

Example of pushing an `email` job to the `emails` queue with a message parameter. This is a concrete usage of the `push()` method.

```php
service('queue')->push('emails', 'email', ['message' => 'Email message goes here']);
```

--------------------------------

### queue:retry - Retry failed jobs

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/commands.md

Retries failed jobs back to the queue. The example retries all failed jobs from the 'emails' queue.

```bash
php spark queue:retry all -queue emails
```

--------------------------------

### queue:work - Consume jobs with priority

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/commands.md

Consumes jobs from a queue with priority. The example works the same as the previous command but first consumes jobs from the 'emails' queue that were added with the 'low' priority.

```bash
php spark queue:work emails -max-jobs 5 -priority low,high
```

--------------------------------

### Implement a job class with process method

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/basic-usage.md

Example of a job class that sends an email using the `service('email')` helper. The `process` method is called when the job is executed. Throwing an exception signals the queue worker that the job has failed.

```php
<?php
namespace App\Jobs;
use Exception;
use CodeIgniter\Queue\BaseJob;
class Email extends BaseJob
{
    /**
     * @throws Exception
     */
    public function process()
    {
        $email  = service('email', null, false);
        $result = $email
            ->setTo('test@email.test')
            ->setSubject('My test email')
            ->setMessage($this->data['message'])
            ->send(false);
        if (! $result) {
            throw new Exception($email->printDebugger('headers'));
        }
        return $result;
    }
}
```

--------------------------------

### queue:failed - View failed jobs

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/commands.md

Views all failed jobs, optionally from a specific queue using the -queue option. The example lists failed jobs from the 'emails' queue.

```bash
php spark queue:failed -queue emails
```

--------------------------------

### Access QueueEvent metadata

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/events.md

Retrieve specific metadata values with optional defaults, or get all metadata as an array. Useful for worker lifecycle events like WORKER_STOPPED.

```php
// Get specific metadata
$event->getMetadata('worker_id');
$event->getMetadata('priority', 'default');
// Get all metadata
$metadata = $event->getAllMetadata();
```

--------------------------------

### Run queue worker with Supervisor: php spark queue:work emails -wait 10

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/running-queues.md

Starts a queue worker for the 'emails' queue that checks for new jobs every 10 seconds when the queue is empty and does not quit. The waiting time prevents unnecessary database queries.

```bash
php spark queue:work emails -wait 10
```

--------------------------------

### Get job details from QueueEvent

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/events.md

For job events, retrieve the job ID, class, priority, attempts, status, and processing times. These methods are only meaningful for job-related events.

```php
$event->getJobId();            // Job ID
$event->getJobClass();         // Fully qualified job class name
$event->getPriority();         // Job priority
$event->getAttempts();         // Number of attempts
$event->getStatus();           // Job status
$event->getProcessingTime();   // Processing time in seconds
$event->getProcessingTimeMs(); // Processing time in milliseconds
```

--------------------------------

### queue:flush - Delete failed jobs by age

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/commands.md

Deletes many failed jobs at once based on failed date and queue. The example deletes all failed jobs older than 6 hours.

```bash
php spark queue:flush -hours 6
```

--------------------------------

### Get error information from failed QueueEvent

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/events.md

For failed events, access the exception object, its message, and check if the event contains an exception. Use these to log or handle failures.

```php
$event->getException();        // Exception object (if any)
$event->getExceptionMessage(); // Exception message
$event->hasFailed();           // True if event contains an exception
```

--------------------------------

### Configure Queue in app/Config/Queue.php

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/README.md

Configuration file for the queue package. Set the default connection and define queue connections with their drivers and settings.

```php
<?php
namespace Config;
use CodeIgniteriltersilters;
class Queue extends \CodeIgniter\Config\BaseConfig
{
    public $defaultConnection = 'database';
    public $connections = [
        'database' => [
            'driver' => 'database',
            'table'  => 'queue_jobs',
            'dbGroup' => 'default',
        ],
        'redis' => [
            'driver' => 'redis',
            'host' => 'localhost',
            'port' => 6379,
            'password' => null,
            'database' => 0,
        ],
        'sync' => [
            'driver' => 'sync',
        ],
    ];
}
```

--------------------------------

### Publish Queue Configuration

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/configuration.md

Publishes the configuration file to app/Config/Queue.php.

```bash
php spark queue:publish
```

--------------------------------

### Push a job to the queue using service('queue')->push()

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/index.md

Adds a job to a specified queue with parameters. Use this to enqueue tasks for background processing.

```php
service('queue')->push('queueName', 'jobName', ['array' => 'parameters']);
```

--------------------------------

### queue:publish

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/commands.md

Publishes a configuration class in the application namespace.

```APIDOC
## queue:publish
### Description
Allows you to publish a configuration class in the application namespace.
### Command
`php spark queue:publish`
### Example
```
php spark queue:publish
```
```

--------------------------------

### Regular push() vs chain() method order for priority and delay

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/running-queues.md

Contrasts the regular push() method, where priority and delay are set before pushing, with the chain() method, where they must be set after calling push() for each job. The regular push() sets priority before pushing, while the chain push() sets it after pushing.

```php
// Regular push() - priority set before pushing
service('queue')->setPriority('high')->push('queue', 'job', []);
```

```php
// Chain push() - priority set after pushing
service('queue')->chain(function($chain) {
    $chain->push('queue', 'job', [])->setPriority('high');
});
```

--------------------------------

### queue:job

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/commands.md

Generates a new job file.

```APIDOC
## queue:job
### Description
Generates a new job file.
### Command
`php spark queue:job <name>`
### Arguments
- **name** (string) - Required - The job class name.
### Options
- **--namespace** (string) - Optional - Set root namespace. Default: "APP_NAMESPACE".
- **--suffix** (flag) - Optional - Append the component title to the class name (e.g. Email => EmailJob).
- **--force** (flag) - Optional - Force overwrite existing file.
### Example
```
php spark queue:job Email
```
It will generate the `Email` class in the `App\Jobs` namespace.
```

--------------------------------

### Chain jobs with priority and delay

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/running-queues.md

Creates a sequence of jobs that run in order after the previous job completes. Each job can set optional priority and delay after push(), matching the options available in regular push().

```php
service('queue')->chain(function($chain) {
    $chain
        ->push('reports', 'generate-report', ['userId' => 123])
            ->setPriority('high') // optional
        ->push('emails', 'email', ['message' => 'Email message goes here', 'userId' => 123])
            ->setDelay(30); // optional
});
```

--------------------------------

### Listening to Queue Events

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/events.md

Shows how to register event listeners for queue events such as job completion, job failure, and worker lifecycle events.

```APIDOC
## Listening to Queue Events
### Description
Register event listeners for queue events using CodeIgniter's standard event system.
### Usage
Add listeners in `app/Config/Events.php` using `Events::on()`.
### Event Types
- `QueueEventManager::JOB_PROCESSING_COMPLETED` - Triggered when a job completes processing.
- `QueueEventManager::JOB_FAILED` - Triggered when a job fails.
- `QueueEventManager::WORKER_STARTED` - Triggered when a worker starts.
- `QueueEventManager::WORKER_STOPPED` - Triggered when a worker stops.
### Example
```php
use CodeIgniter\Events\Events;
use CodeIgniter\Queue\Events\QueueEvent;
use CodeIgniter\Queue\Events\QueueEventManager;

// Listen to job completion
Events::on(QueueEventManager::JOB_PROCESSING_COMPLETED, static function (QueueEvent $event) {
    log_message('info', 'Job completed: {job} in {time}s', [
        'job'  => $event->getJobClass(),
        'time' => $event->getProcessingTime(),
    ]);
});

// Listen to job failures
Events::on(QueueEventManager::JOB_FAILED, static function (QueueEvent $event) {
    log_message('error', 'Job failed: {job} - {error}', [
        'job'   => $event->getJobClass(),
        'error' => $event->getExceptionMessage(),
    ]);
});

// Listen to worker lifecycle
Events::on(QueueEventManager::WORKER_STARTED, static function (QueueEvent $event) {
    log_message('info', 'Worker started for queue: {queue}', [
        'queue' => $event->getQueue(),
    ]);
});

Events::on(QueueEventManager::WORKER_STOPPED, static function (QueueEvent $event) {
    $metadata = $event->getAllMetadata();

    log_message('info', 'Worker stopped: {reason}, processed {jobs} jobs in {time}s', [
        'reason' => $metadata['stop_reason'],
        'jobs'   => $metadata['jobs_processed'],
        'time'   => round($metadata['uptime_seconds'], 2),
    ]);
});
```
```

--------------------------------

### Run queue worker with CRON using -max-jobs and --stop-when-empty

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/running-queues.md

Schedules a queue worker for the 'emails' queue that exits immediately when no jobs remain and processes batches of up to 20 jobs per run. Omitting -max-jobs can lead to multiple concurrent commands and unpredictable resource usage.

```bash
php spark queue:work emails -max-jobs 20 --stop-when-empty
```

--------------------------------

### Generate a job class with `php spark queue:job Email`

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/basic-usage.md

Run this command to generate a new job class named `Email` in the `App\Jobs` namespace. After generation, you must add the class to the `$jobHandlers` array in `Config\Queue`.

```bash
php spark queue:job Email
```

--------------------------------

### QueueEvent Object Methods

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/events.md

Describes the methods available on the QueueEvent object for accessing event information.

```APIDOC
## QueueEvent Object Methods
### Description
All event listeners receive a `QueueEvent` object with methods to access event details.
### Basic Information
- `getType()` - Returns the event type (e.g., 'queue.job.pushed').
- `getHandler()` - Returns the handler name (e.g., 'database', 'redis').
- `getQueue()` - Returns the queue name (e.g., 'emails', 'default').
- `getTimestamp()` - Returns the time object when the event occurred.
### Event Type Checks
- `isJobEvent()` - Returns true for job-related events.
- `isWorkerEvent()` - Returns true for worker-related events.
- `isConnectionEvent()` - Returns true for connection-related events.
- `isOperationEvent()` - Returns true for operation events.
### Job Information (for job events)
- `getJobId()` - Returns the job ID.
- `getJobClass()` - Returns the fully qualified job class name.
- `getPriority()` - Returns the job priority.
- `getAttempts()` - Returns the number of attempts.
- `getStatus()` - Returns the job status.
- `getProcessingTime()` - Returns the processing time in seconds.
- `getProcessingTimeMs()` - Returns the processing time in milliseconds.
### Error Information (for failed events)
- `getException()` - Returns the exception object (if any).
- `getExceptionMessage()` - Returns the exception message.
- `hasFailed()` - Returns true if the event contains an exception.
### Metadata Access
- `getMetadata('worker_id')` - Gets a specific metadata value.
- `getMetadata('priority', 'default')` - Gets a specific metadata value with a default.
- `getAllMetadata()` - Returns all metadata as an array.
### Example
```php
$event->getType();      // Event type (e.g., 'queue.job.pushed')
$event->getHandler();   // Handler name (e.g., 'database', 'redis')
$event->getQueue();     // Queue name (e.g., 'emails', 'default')
$event->getTimestamp(); // Time object when event occurred

$event->isJobEvent();        // True for job-related events
$event->isWorkerEvent();     // True for worker-related events
$event->isConnectionEvent(); // True for connection-related events
$event->isOperationEvent(); // True for operation events

$event->getJobId();            // Job ID
$event->getJobClass(); // Fully qualified job class name
$event->getPriority();         // Job priority
$event->getAttempts();         // Number of attempts
$event->getStatus();           // Job status
$event->getProcessingTime(); // Processing time in seconds
$event->getProcessingTimeMs(); // Processing time in milliseconds

$event->getException(); // Exception object (if any)
$event->getExceptionMessage(); // Exception message
$event->hasFailed(); // True if event contains an exception

$event->getMetadata('worker_id');
$event->getMetadata('priority', 'default');
$metadata = $event->getAllMetadata();
```
```

--------------------------------

### Register job handler in Config\Queue

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/basic-usage.md

Add the generated job class to the `$jobHandlers` array in the `Config\Queue` configuration file. The array maps a string key (e.g., 'email') to the job class.

```php
// app/Config/Queue.php
use App\Jobs\Email;
// ...
/**
 * Your jobs handlers.
 */
public array $jobHandlers = [
    'email' => Email::class,
];
// ...
```

--------------------------------

### Send chained jobs with service('queue')->chain()

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/basic-usage.md

Sends multiple jobs in a specified order. The `chain()` method accepts a closure that receives a chain object, allowing you to push jobs sequentially. The second job runs only if the first succeeds. Returns a `QueuePushResult` object.

```php
service('queue')->chain(function($chain) {
    $chain
        ->push('reports', 'generate-report', ['userId' => 123])
        ->push('emails', 'email', ['message' => 'Email message goes here', 'userId' => 123]);
});
```

--------------------------------

### Configure retry options on a job

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/basic-usage.md

Set `$retryAfter` and `$tries` properties to control retry behavior. The values shown (60 and 1) are the defaults; only add them when you want to change them. These can be overwritten by the `queue:work` command parameters.

```php
// ...
class Email extends BaseJob
{
    protected int $retryAfter = 60;
    protected int $tries      = 1;
    // ...
}
```

--------------------------------

### Define $queuePriorities

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/configuration.md

Defines valid priorities for the 'emails' queue in the order they will be consumed.

```php
public array $queuePriorities = [
    'emails' => ['high', 'low'],
];
```

--------------------------------

### Check QueueEvent type with is* methods

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/events.md

Use these boolean methods to determine the category of the event: job, worker, connection, or operation. Useful for filtering events in a listener.

```php
$event->isJobEvent();        // True for job-related events
$event->isWorkerEvent();     // True for worker-related events
$event->isConnectionEvent(); // True for connection-related events
$event->isOperationEvent();  // True for operation events
```

--------------------------------

### queue:failed

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/commands.md

Views all failed jobs, optionally filtered by queue.

```APIDOC
## queue:failed
### Description
Allows you to view all failed jobs. Also only from a specific queue.
### Command
`php spark queue:failed`
### Options
- **-queue** (string) - Optional - Queue name.
### Example
```
php spark queue:failed -queue emails
```
It will list failed jobs from the `emails` queue.
```

--------------------------------

### Access basic QueueEvent information

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/events.md

Retrieve the event type, handler name, queue name, and timestamp from a QueueEvent object. These methods are available on all event listeners.

```php
$event->getType();      // Event type (e.g., 'queue.job.pushed')
$event->getHandler();   // Handler name (e.g., 'database', 'redis')
$event->getQueue();     // Queue name (e.g., 'emails', 'default')
$event->getTimestamp(); // Time object when event occurred
```

--------------------------------

### Register queue event listeners in app/Config/Events.php

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/events.md

Add these listeners to app/Config/Events.php to handle job completion, job failure, and worker lifecycle events. Uses CodeIgniter's Events::on with QueueEventManager constants and logs messages with event data.

```php
<?php
use CodeIgniter\Events\Events;
use CodeIgniter\Queue\Events\QueueEvent;
use CodeIgniter\Queue\Events\QueueEventManager;
// Listen to job completion
Events::on(QueueEventManager::JOB_PROCESSING_COMPLETED, static function (QueueEvent $event) {
    log_message('info', 'Job completed: {job} in {time}s', [
        'job'  => $event->getJobClass(),
        'time' => $event->getProcessingTime(),
    ]);
});
// Listen to job failures
Events::on(QueueEventManager::JOB_FAILED, static function (QueueEvent $event) {
    log_message('error', 'Job failed: {job} - {error}', [
        'job'   => $event->getJobClass(),
        'error' => $event->getExceptionMessage(),
    ]);
});
// Listen to worker lifecycle
Events::on(QueueEventManager::WORKER_STARTED, static function (QueueEvent $event) {
    log_message('info', 'Worker started for queue: {queue}', [
        'queue' => $event->getQueue(),
    ]);
});
Events::on(QueueEventManager::WORKER_STOPPED, static function (QueueEvent $event) {
    $metadata = $event->getAllMetadata();
    log_message('info', 'Worker stopped: {reason}, processed {jobs} jobs in {time}s', [
        'reason' => $metadata['stop_reason'],
        'jobs'   => $metadata['jobs_processed'],
        'time'   => round($metadata['uptime_seconds'], 2),
    ]);
});
```

--------------------------------

### Define $jobHandlers

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/configuration.md

Registers a job handler for the 'email' key, mapping it to the Email class.

```php
public array $jobHandlers = [
    'email' => Email::class,
];
```

--------------------------------

### Use transactions in a job

Source: https://github.com/codeigniter4/queue/blob/develop/docs/basic-usage.md

Schema for using database transactions inside a job. Strict Mode is automatically disabled for the Database handler's connection, but if you use a different connection group, you should disable it via `$db->transStrict(false)` or the `transStrict` config option.

```php
// ...
class Email extends BaseJob
{
    /**
     * @throws Exception
     */
    public function process(string $data):
    {
        try {
            $db = db_connect();
            // Disable Strict Mode
            $db->transStrict(false);
            $db->transBegin();
            // Job logic goes here
            // Your code should throw an exception on error
            if ($db->transStatus() === false) {
                $db->transRollback();
            } else {
                $db->transCommit();
            }
        } catch (Exception $e) {
            $db->transRollback();
            throw $e;
        }
    }
}
